I just wanted to make sure I know how to get my documents apostilled correctly for the current laws so I don't run into trouble at the last minute.

I live in the U.S. so this post is only in regards to the American process.

Once I get my Federal CBC back (hopefully signed with an official seal/stamp since I wrote on the top and the bottom of the application form that I needed those) then I send it to the Secretary of State office in D.C. for a national/federal apostille, correct?

I send notarized copies of my degrees to the Secretary of State in my home state to get a state apostille, correct?
I currently live in the state where I received my B.A., so that's no problem.
However, I received my M.A. in Vermont. Do I need to send the notarized copies of my M.A. degree to Vermont to be apostilled by their Secretary of State?
I got copies of my M.A. degree notarized in Ohio. Is that still ok?
I'd really rather not travel to Vermont in person to get copies of my degree notarized.... Confused

First off, do reconsider if you need to get your MA apostilled. If you are applying for a basic E2 job, you can likely avoid doing it. Your BA will need to be verified. Double check with place (Uni, EPIK) who is hiring if the need it to be verified.

I do not think Ohio State department can apostille a Vermont document. Different states. Besides it would just confuse the people at immi.
Search the net and see if you can find a service that will handle the process for you. Or heck Vermont State Department website, I bet the can handle verification through mail or express mail. Which I just did and it took me about one minute.

I'd suggest that you not be surprised if you get the application back unprocessed. You're not supposed to write on the form other than as requested to complete the necessary blocks. According to the FBI, all submissions will be signed by a division officer and have the seal affixed:

Quote:
8. Does the FBI provide apostilles*?

(*An apostille is a certification that a document has been “legalized” or “authenticated” by the issuing agency through a process in which various seals are placed on the document.)

The CJIS Division will authenticate all U.S. Department of Justice Order 556-73 fingerprint search results by placing the FBI seal and the signature of a division official on the results at the time of submission. Note: The FBI seal is no longer a raised seal. Documents authenticated by the FBI may then be sent to the U.S. Department of State by the requestor to obtain an apostille if necessary. Requests to authenticate previously processed results will not be accepted. Note: If a Channeler will be used and an authentication (apostille) is needed, please contact the Channeler to determine if this service is provided.

That's a step up from the past when you had to include a letter requesting the division officer signature and seal.

The ONLY documents that require an apostille (for visa, immigration or MOE) are the BA and FBI check.

Save your money on the rest unless they are specifically required to be appostilled as a condition of employment (unlikely but you never know).

Shocked Ack! I really hope that doesn't happen since it takes so long to get one of those processed. Sad

Oh, that's good to know. I'll check it out with my recruiter and see if I should bother to hire an apostille service to get the Vermont paperwork taken care of or not.

Thanks guys!

Was this recently, like within the last year?

It's ok to write on the form. It will definitely still be processed. The FBI rep told me to write a note on the top of my form because it was my third submission (poor fingerprints--they expedite the process for you after two failed attempts.) I also wrote that I needed that signature on the top of my form.
