All the things that have been pissing me off lately about work and then today happens...
For my loyal followers out there, you already know my living situation is less than adequete (i.e. one room, window issues, in between hagwon and elementary school)... anyway, today I get home and find that someone had jimmied open my bathroom window and grabbed everything they could reach (shampoo, shaving cream, toothpaste, and cologne) and sprayed it everywhere. Wasn't too happy to find a trashed bathroom after a long day of teaching. I went upstairs to speak with my director. She asked if anything was stolen and I said no (aside from the wasted toiletries). She refused to come and look though because she's terrified of my cat. So her husband calls me and says, "Oh, don't worry about it. The kids were just having fun." He's coming by later tonight, but I don't think I like where this is going.
At first, it was one thing for the children to follow me home and try and peak in my door. Annoying, but not enough to make a huge fuss about. But even vandalism seems to be a tad more serious to me. Especially when I have no choice but to leave my windows open (or else my room is somewhere between Death Valley, California and Sahara Desert hot). With my small bathroom window open, I can get the temperature down below 100 degrees F.
I'm not a happy camper today. |

Wow. Thought I had some bad days....
I guess my advice would consist of this: make DAMNED sure you have proof that it was local kids before you go around making accusations. I certainly WOULD notify the cops-won't do any good but CYA & do it anyway.
If it IS local kids, as your director's better half thinks(& it's NOT a joke to you-make that clear!), then there are some serious issues at work here:what the hell would inspire these kids to do that??!! |

Don't know about icing on a cake, but it's certainly shaving cream in a bathroom.
That is serious. It may not be overly expensive, but it is vandalism, and a major violation of personal space. |

I'm damn near 100% certain it was kids from my hagwon.
First, I have the time narrowed down to between 5:20 and 7:00pm... as I was in my room at 5:20 and all was fine.
Second, all of my students know I have a cat and beg to see him constantly. Originally, I thought it might be my cat that made the mess. But all the bottles had been emptied and were still standing up. I doubt if my cat (while going on a rampage) would have the manual (pawual?) dexterity to empty a bottle of shaving cream without knocking it over.
So, my guess is that the students were trying to see my cat. He may have even shown up and they were trying to spray him with things... or maybe they just took advantage of the oppurtunity.
My director's husband seems more concerned about the fact that my shower is leaking somewhere causing the trim around the door to rot (shoddy construction). |

Probably also a ventilation problem. Sounds like you need an AC unit to get the air cool and dry. |

An AC would solve everything. I could close and lock the windows. The humidity would be controlled... but I'll be damned if I'm shelling out for an AC for this crap apartment, especially after repeated promises that she will buy one for me. Although her promises carry about as much weight as Bush's promises to make America a better place (it might happen, but only by shear luck). |

The thought of you paying for it never crossed my mind. I love your boss more than you do, trust me. |

That sucks. It also sucks that they don't think it's a very big deal. Man, I would be way more pissed if it had been my own students that had done it rather than some random vandals that didn't know me. |

A school should pay for AC. Man, I would just get out of that contract quick smart. |

Your school handled that quite poorly.
Sorry to hear that. |

Honestly, I want nothing more than to just not show up for school one day cause my ass is on an airplane flying somewhere. I've got the money, I've got the job offers to work for much better jobs... yet I don't do it. Why?
1) I signed a contract. I don't break contracts lightly. (Here that ladies, some of us guys are trustworthy)
2) My father has already booked a plane ticket to come to Korea at the end of July. So I, ya know, kinda feel obliged to be here when he does come. And I can't just take the other job offer I have here because there's no way they'd give me a week off within the first month of working. |

As long as you get this thing resolved, and an AC, you're fine.
Think of showing up to work, even if you are getting paid, as a personal favor to your boss. This lack of care for job performance on your part will do wonders for your mind. |

Sorry to hear about your bad day, but what happened to the kids that did that? You have a good idea that it was from your school and I have a feeling you even might know which group of kids did it from your school. Did you ever try to confront them about it? Find out why they did it and let them know that it was wrong... I think the owner should have been more on your side about that and try to find out who did it. |

No offence Ryleeys but it sounds like you need to stand up for yourself and grow some balls, with all due respect.
It sounds like he is just bulldozing you over day after day after day.
I know you said you wouldn't break contracts but it is a dog eat dog world, I'm not saying that you should be dishonourable but if someone is giving it to me up the backside I let them know that it is not on. |

I have no fucking clue. I know from where you've gotten the job offer. I'm quite satisfied with my current job; however, if that place offered me a job, I would be out of here in a heartbeat. Well...I'd play the month's notice game, but I still wouldn't debate the issue. Coming from where you're coming from, it'd be damn near impossible for me to not jump ship.
Not everything is about honor; sometimes, it's about moving yourself into a better place in life. There's no point in torturing yourself to prove to some invisible being that you can take it, but there's plenty of reasons for you to make the move.
Hell, even if you can't get the time off to hang out with your dad, where do you think he'd rather see you work?
By the by, if you ever want to meet in Suwon (or Bundang) for dinner or something (other than an intensive drinking session) some weekend, give me a holler, and we can arrange something. |
