|

I want to go camping in Korea, I don't have any equipment for it (but willing to buy if unable to rent) but have no idea how I would go about it? Where are the best places to go? I live in Incheon so I guess within 2 or 3 hours of there?
Has anyone else been, what is it like? And when I say camping I mean proper camping, not one of those huge camping parks with a trillion people and burger (rice?) stands a stones throw away.
Thanks |

Sorry, as an avid camper (4-5 times a year), to the best of my knowledge, these don't exist per se. It is illegal to pitch a tent in the wild in Korea. I once found a camping spot in the SE of Korea, off of the rail lines and express busses (you have to have a car to get there) and there were not many people and it was close to the woods. However, it was still on private property, aka camp grounds. |

There are plenty of nice islands off the coast of Incheon. The outer islands are not crowded at all. The inner islands can be reached with one ferry only but to the outer ones you should take a smaller ship from Deokjeok-do. If you want, you can find remote beaches with no people at all and camp wherever you want. |

Just do what everyone else does. Find yourself some badly laid concrete and camp on it. |

Ah that's a little known secret of Korea. Good on you for pointing it out. Those islands are nice, water surprisingly clean and camping areas are available. Nice beaches too. |

i usually pitch near a river, theres usually space and no-one complains if i want to make a fire or whatever. theres also a lot of spots that are put aside for tents near the rock climbing crags that i use.
As well, this time of year id invest in a mosquito net too if your planning on going out. it gets unbearably hot at night and if your sitting out or leave the doors open, youll get eaten ( last year, i slept up against the net on the door by accident, i woke up with about 40 bites on my leg. after the that, i put a net over the tent before went to bed). |

There is actually a pretty decent book on camping in Korea in English, I think Kyobo at Gwanghwamun has it, worth checking out... |

Great till they open a dam and you get washed away!
To all people who plan on camping RIGHT on the river, they usually sound a siren for a while before they open the dams.
If you hear one, get to higher ground! |

Apparently there are some campsites in Chiaksan National Park that require quite a hike to get and as such are deserted by the vast majority of Korean camping families who just want a lot next to the road and a noraebang or two. |
