I am looking into applying for jobs at a couple of "real" BC Offshore schools in 2014 and was wondering if anyone had opinions or recommendations about any of the following schools:
BIS Canada (http://www.biscanada.org)
British Columbia Collegiate Canada (http://www.bcacanada.org/)
CBIS (Canada BC International School) (http://www.cbis.or.kr/)
SIS Canada (http://siscanada.org)
Westminister Canadian Academy (http://www.wcacanada.org/)
I greatly appreciate any information you might have about these schools and their atmosphere. If you would rather not post on this public forum please ask for my email.
Thanks in advance. |

It's hard to say at the moment as the BC schools in Korea are in their infancy. I am at a the biggest BC school in China and moving to a smaller one in the fall. I lived in Korea for five years before China.
BIS Canada - seems like the best of them as they have been around for four years and are now up to Grade 12. I have some friends going there in the Fall and the positions are competitive. You should have a Masters and a few years experience.
Now I just heard that they lost their certification but can't be sure what that means.
BC Collegiate- I had an interview with the principal and vice principal when they were in charge of BIS. I've heard conflicting reports on this school and don't know who to believe. Pretty looking campus in a great location.
Westminister- I just checked out the website. Very new but looks promising. All elementary now.
SIS- I know nothing besides the website.
CBIS- Saw the cross on the website and closed the window!
Unless you are excited about the prospect of working through the growing pains of a new school, then you may want to wait a few years. Koreans don't need a BC education to get into university abroad so the market is not really there. Perhaps you want to work in a mature BC school in China for a couple years and then try in Korea again.
In the long-run BC schools will develop and increase, but for now they are unsure of their meaning and in turmoil. |
