OP's picks look pretty good, but I don't know if the Celtics will get by the Knicks or if Brooklyn can get past Chicago ... (But if the Celts do rally to get past the Knicks they might also beat Indiana - and then win a couple games against the Heat to make it interesting.) |

NEVER count out San Antonio, yeah they've been sluggish at the end of the season but thats the way Pop wants it, everybody will be healthy and rested.
I'd love to see the Spurs win one more title then have Pop and Duncan ride off into the sunset. Pop then can enjoy some of his wines along with some time off then coach the 2016 Olympic team to another gold medal |

Never count the best franchise in sports out, they've consistently been at the top for the last 15 years. Hopefully Ginobili is over the hamstring injury, Parker seems to be in good form after his (ankle?) issues, and Duncan has been playing well beyond his years lately, solid. The big 3's health is very important. Ginobili was probably the main factor in the game one win, surprisingly, since he'd been out for a while. LA does pose a big threat inside for round one. But the Spurs firepower from downtown from Bonner, Green, Ginobili, Leonard, etc., will be hard to stop. They did slow down in the last dozen or so games as the season ran down. But, they're always a good horse to bet on and you can never underestimate their potential. They held the best record in the NBA for most of the regular season for a reason. |

Caught the second half of the LA vs SA game earlier, doubt LA will get more than a game or two since they're so beat up and their big men are pussies.
And that Houston vs OKC game looked crazy from the highlights, might wind up being closer than it looks, and I didn't even realize Kevin McHale had become the coach for the Rockets lol. Ahhh, a moment of brief elation realizing how great playoff basketball is.
I need to get a better TV package, my SK package sucks so hard... I'm sick of the >10 channels out of 600 that I can actually watch and the best sports channel I have is Eurosport . I know I can watch torrents on my computer, but there has to be something less pathetic than my horrible SK package. I saw an NBA game on cable TV in the countryside once damnit! Any suggestions? |

Yeah, the Celtics don't look so good. Nothing is clicking for them right now. (And that Melo guy is hot.)
To me, the Spurs are just too old. Tony Parker doesn't have the burst anymore. He's not as quick as he was before. And Ginobili takes so many crazy shots I don't know what to expect from him. Besides, Denver and OKC are young teams with too much energy for them. I can't see the Spurs winning four games against either team. |

Yeah, thanks hogwonguy, I stream sports from work almost daily, as well as from home if I wake up early enough on the weekends, and know the sites. I was just wondering if there's a cable package that allowed me to catch some of them on TV.

I'm not saying they'll win the championship, but these statements have been said for years, yet San Antonio still almost always dominates during the regular season and goes deep in the playoffs.
I disagree with you on a few things. Parker was a legitimate MVP contender this year until his ankle injury late in the season, so I don't agree with that at all. Game 2 was close until the second half, where Parker scored 15 in the third alone (which is remarkable), had 28 points overall, and even hit a 3 and had a blocked shot . He's been a beast since the Eva Longoria situation, don't think he's lost much burst outside of the recent ankle injury, but he's apparently overcome that. Ginobili does have the tendency to take some crazy shots, but he doesn't lose games, he's the most trusted player in the clutch. As I said earlier, he was also the main factor in the win in game one and scored 18 points in 19 minutes in that game, which is very impressive. Duncan is old, but he's still extremely effective and the big fundamental is in good form at the premier of the playoffs. Pop knows how to manage his players and their minutes, he's a master at that. Lastly, there are a number of great young players on the Spurs: Leonard is a monster with so much potential, Green, Neal, Splitter, Diaw and Bonner (though the last two aren't young) can all step up on any given night, and the Spurs have always been about role players anyway; Bruce Bowen rarely scored but he was a starter for years, San Antonio loses when their defense fails them. They've been the most the fundamentally sound franchise in the league for about the last 15 years. Like hogwonguy said, you can never count them out and that's why I've been a fan since I was a kid. We'll see what happens, I'm not saying they'll win it all this year (though I hope they do) but never count them out. |

I heard an interview with Celtics GM Danny Ainge (on a Boston sports-talk station), and his explanation for why the Celts seem to run out of gas in big games didn't sit well with some analysts. Ainge expressed his view that the team has tended to put too much energy into their intense defensive effort - resulting in players lacking energy to run an effective offense in the second half of too many games. (Of course, having aging star-players and not having Rajon Rondo's big-game capability has made it very difficult for them to advance.) That said, I think they'll win the next two games in Boston by inspired team effort (before probably falling in New York...) |

Tony Parker hasn't looked the same since the ankle injury. That's what I meant. He'll probably recover and be back to 100% sometime next season. But right now, even though he is playing well, he just doesn't seem to have the spark anymore. I remember Ginobili fouling Dirk Nowitzki at the last second shot in Game 7 against the Mavericks. It was the dumbest play (the Spurs were up three and they could afford to give Dirk a basket) and I believe it cost the Spurs a championship. Having said all that, the Spurs are likely to beat the Thunder now that Westbrook is out.
By the way, Danny Ainge is an idiot. Period. |

Although Celtic pride prevented a sweep today, the Knicks have looked very impressive in this series and seem capable of going all the way ...
(Then again, if the Celts should win the next game in New York - highly unlikely with the return of J.R. Smith - they might be able to extend the series to 7 games (and try to become the first NBA team to come back from 3 - zip) |

For the record, I was on the Spurs' bandwagon for nine years. They won four championships in that time period. But after a while, I realized that they are old, injury-prone, and they are not going after another superstar. It was like seven years ago I saw how this team won't win another ring without a massive overhaul. And I've been right ever since.
But if Memphis and Denver are out, hey, the Spurs might make it to the Finals. (I don't have faith in OKC without Russel Westbrook.) Of course, the Spurs won't win two games against the Heat. |
