| Hello, I'm looking to get a job as an ESL teacher in Korea. I have some experience ( a year ) teaching ESL in the states and some good references along with a good work record. The problem is I have a couple misdemeanors on my record including a DUI. Will this keep me from finding a job or getting a visa? I appreciate any insight and thanks in advance. |

| If you have anything on your FBI check other than, "No record found" - your visa will automatically be denied. |

Maybe in the past, you could try to explain and get someone to sponsor you. The way the market is and immigration now a days is you will be refused.
Consider trying to get your record expunged or pardoned. |

If it is actually on your FBI check you can cross Korea, Vietnam. Taiwan, Hong Kong and China off of your list for legal work.
You may find illegal work in China on a "business" visa (illegal because you can't get a "Z" visa as a teacher without a clear record).
You can probably find work in Cambodia (check not needed) or Thailand (State level and out of State (as long as it is clear) check will suffice).
Anywhere south of the Rio Grande is an option but you may have visa issues.

Hard policy (presidential decree - 2008) and now law as well (as of 2011) ...
Enforcement and screening is done by immigration for E2 applicants (visa denial) and the
MOE for those with more "permanent" residence (marriage or returning Korean nationals, etc. (F2,4,5,6 visas) since they live here they can take other work rather than be a teacher).
