After waiting 14 days, I went to the local Labor Board office looking for help with a Korean friend. Labor made a quick call to the hagwon and was told that they don't have the money but will pay within the next 14 days. Yes, another 14 days. Although the officer believes this is too slow, he produced a pamphlet that supposedly said this was okay. I assume it referred to the "special circumstances" under Chapter 2, Article 9....that I didn't agree with. According to Labor, suing the school is the alternative.
Labor will supposedly try to get the school to pay soon....but it looks like they're leaning toward power of attorney. So, if severance doesn't magically appear this coming week then the only solution is to get someone to represent me after I leave Korea....really annoying. If I had known that I would of left 2 weeks ago, signed off to someone and saved a bunch of cash.
Did anyone else find a better solution in the past? |
