|
|
Long story short, this year new rules went into effect baring the US embassy from issuing appostiles on drivers licences for some reason, so because i had to get a new licence when I went home for vacation last Christmas, I no longer have an appostiles copy to trade for my Korean licence
Has anyone taken the written test and road test in Seoul? I have a few questions if anyone has.
1. The website http://www.koroad.or.kr/en_web/index.do is contradictory as all hell. Do you need to do the 10 hours of diving after being issues a temporary licence to obtain the full licence? If so, where do you do that training?
2. Where are English services offered and what parts are in English? My Korean is passable, but I wouldnt want to take a 50 question test about car maintenance and road rules in Korean, however the diving test would be fine.
Also, any other tidbits like length of the test or availability would be nice.
Thanks! |

i haven't finished to full test, only the computer part. It was difficult because it looked like the questions had been written by google translate. That being said, none of the foreigners I was with that day failed it.
But as far as I know, you dont need to drive for x hours before getting your full licence? Ive never heard that before. You do it on a test course. |

You're a Brit right? Do you have a UK driver’s license?
If so you can (or could in the past) just swap that one for a Korean driver’s license.....
You didn't have to do the computer test - Americans did.....
Has that now changed?
I think ppl from Florida don't have to do it anymore? Maybe some other states too….? |

you can get all it all done in one day (although it takes a full day). After the written test is a very basic driving test that shows you know where the wipers, turning lights, brakes and so on are. After that is a 2nd driving test that is about 5kms.
The written test is in English, but some of the questions can be confusing as the translation is not always the best. It is still extremely easy.
The driving test is also in English, although the person driving with you most likely won't know much. Again, it is very easy.
You do not need to do any driving training. |

Western DMV. It is past the world cup stadium in Sangam-dong in Mapo-gu.
The roads are well planned and it is not a busy area which makes a bit easier. |

| No, just turn up on the day. You do need to watch a video before the written test however. They are at the same times each day (10am for sure) |
