|
|
These prices are reflective of buying from Costco (large bag of cheese, large bag of chicken breast, one normal sized carton of sour cream), a 40 pack of tortillas, two bottles of organic salsa and from ezshopkorea (one frozen bag of guacamole for $32 shipping inclusive)
For 12 burritos made the way I like it:
Tortilla 12 $3.6
Sour cream 180 grams $1.2
Salsa 400 grams $2.4
Guacamole 180 grams $6.4
Cheese 300 grams $3.8
Chicken Breast with seasonings 12 $12
Rice with cilantro 12 scoops $12
Total cost $41.40, cost per burrito $3.45
Just something I did to procrastinate doing some housework. Thought it would be interesting for anyone that wants to make Mexican food at home. Oh, and just found a great way to make chalupas shells at home..so will try that next time. |

That's Costco prices? Really? My numbers may be a 1,000 won or 2 off but...
I make burritos all the time as well.
For 40 burritos, I would pay:
Wheat or Flour Tortillas 40 - 11,000
Sour Cream 1kg - 7,000
Salsa 2kg - 11,000
Guac - I don't use but i use Jalapeno - 8,000
Cheese 1 kg - 10,000
Chicken (not from Costco) 3kg - 25,000
Rice 2kg (not from Costco) - (no idea price, maybe 8,000?)
That's 80,000 or 2,000 per burrito I swear I did not try and make that number come out to be 80,000 won.. LMAO!!
Actually, I would run out of tortillas before I finished all those ingredients |

I don't think our prices are too drastically different. The cost of guacamole is the highest cost actually, so since you don't use that it makes sense yours is quite a bit lower. I'm actually not sure how much the chicken breast costs (don't remember), but I figured it's approx a dollar when I include all the spices/seasonings I add to it. Rice is cheaper too, but I added in the cost of obtaining cilantro to it. The cheese I use is a little bit higher cost too, the mixed blend mexican cheese.
That is just my total burrito..usually I actually just make a quesadi since it is quicker, and use some salsa, guac and sour to eat it up. |

What is a $?
Really?
CAD? AUSD? USD?
Why not...oh I don't know...express the cost in the local currency. After all it's what we use.

How much for an avocado at the fruit market? Skip that bagged crap, just slice some fresh and add a bit of salt, maybe a squeeze of lime. Put the rest of the lime in some water and have a limeade.l |

Yeah, fresh guac is the best. Problem is that guac doesn't last for very long though. Making fresh guac and freezing isn't doesn't go as well as the frozen one that can be bought. It's a tradeoff we sadly have to decide on in Korea =/ Crazy how expensive avocados are here! |

I make Mexican food all the time here in Shanghai. Sour cream and cheese are the biggest expenses. All of the other ingredients are cheaper here than Seoul or home. I make fresh pico/salsa and guacamole regularly. Is it still difficult to get cilantro in Korea? |
