Hi everyone,
I'm supposed to start work at a hagwon on August 19th and they pay on the 10th of every month. Does that mean I will get paid on September 10th in the full amount since I'm on salary?
Thanks |

Sept. 10th pay = August 19th - August 30th. You get paid a prorated amount for those 12 days. However, hagwons are notorious for having unpaid "training time" of up to one week. You may only get paid for as little as 5 days prorated amount. Also, the school may take out deposit money for your apartment for the first few months as well.
Either way, your first full check will be October 10th (not counting deposit money). Plan on bringing enough money to last until then. |

It most likely means you'll get paid for the work you do from Aug 19-31. Then on Oct 10 you'll get paid for the full month of Sept. Sounds like they hold pay for 10 days which isn't that good. |

I am pretty sure this is standard hagwon policy. |

At least when you want to pull a runner there is no ethical dilemma about repayment of anything.
If they turn out to be crap, just leave the day after payday and pick a new country.
It's not like there is a shortage of work in EFL in Asia.
