Women should avoid these misogynistic countries like the plague.

She's lucky that she was a foreign national and her government got her out, now imagine if she was a foreign worker from southeast asia, or even a local woman. Those big buildings, luxury hotels, and man made islands confuse a lot of people, but the UAE is not that different than anywhere else in the region.

If Dubai is like Saudi Arabia, it's illegal for a woman to meet with a man unless they're related. She probably was talking with him and on friendly terms before he raped her. In Saudi Arabia it's not legal to even talk with a woman unless the two of you are related, marriage or family. These are basically stone age, dysfunctional countries with a lot of money. If she.........well never mind. Mad

According to CNN, she's been set free and has all charges dropped.

Dalelv's lawyer, Mahmoud Azab Abu Gareda, told CNN that the sheikh's pardon is "effectively a royal decree," which wipes the slate clean, leaving no record of her conviction.

This means that the alleged perpetrator, who was charged with public intoxication and having sex outside of marriage, also walks free, he said.

Dalelv has already dropped her case against him, so it will not be pursued further, he said.

No, but the two aren't totally different from one another.

It's not illegal in Dubai for women to talk to or walk with men to whom they're not related. It's not illegal for non-Muslims to consume alcohol in Dubai. As a matter of fact, the place is rife with restaurants and clubs serving alcohol.

Look at the post to which I responded. Then look at my post.

So, he walks free? It would appear that in Dubai, if a woman wants justice, she has to call on her tribal family so that they stone the perp to death.

Edit: it would appear this is not the first time this happened - only last time it was an Australian woman that was gang-raped and she did serve her jail sentence.

It's also a country in which the justice system pretty much condones rape of women. In that sense, it's pretty similar to Saudi Arabia.

Right. That was my point. Yes, in numerous ways they are different (hence why I didn't disagree with you), but similar culture with the same influences on the legal system. If this woman had been from South Asia or the Phillipines, things probably would have played out differently.

And yet I was addressig young clinton's point in which he basically pulled something out of his tush. Did you not see that? Yes, Dubai has legislation based on their interpretation of Islam, but, no, they do not have the increible restrictions that Saudi Arabia does. That was my point, my only point.
