My friends dad was confident that he was able to get me a job in Seoul at a decent private school. Turns out all the people he sent last year to Korea have decided to stay so there are no open positions with his connections.
Was wondering if there is any point in applying to a site like teach away to EPIK at this point or would most of the jobs be filled?
I am also thinking of just going to Korea around August 22nd and finding a job and apartment my self as I have been to Seoul before & have a conversational understanding of the language so I can get around O.K. Just wondering if late August is too late to look for a job starting in September. |

I don't know about the timing. Just make sure you come with all the documents (Apostilled FBI CBC, Apostilled notarized copy of your degree) and a load of cash. If you come without the documents, you'll have a minimum of a three month wait and a major headache sending stuff back and forth from Korea. Korea is relatively expensive to stay at. Guest Houses and Hotels are quite a bit. I guess you probably already know that. |

EPIK job = you are too late. Applications for August starts closed a few weeks ago.
Private hire = you can still find work in a public school or at a hagwon.
IF you have an F4 then just get a plane ticket. (still need a CBC and degree copy (just like E2) if you want to be a teacher).

Actually I don't know if Korea is expensive to stay, last time I lived for free at my ex girlfriend's relative's house  .
I have 2 Canadian police checks (PCRC Form B, dated June 24 2013) and 2 notarized copies of my teaching degree all stamped with the Korean Consulate's seal. I also have 2 sealed envelopes with my transcripts and 3 copies of my passport and driver's license. My passport also doesn't expire until 2016. I am wondering if I should get my undergraduate degree stamped with the Korean Consulate seal? I have it notarized but just need to get transcripts to get the seal. I wondering if my teacher's degree is enough. |

Not Korean so can't get an F4
Just wondering on the general process of going without a contract.
Get to Korea --> Shop around for a Job --> Sign School's Contract ---> Fly to Japan ---> Apply for a E2 Visa and wait up to 10 days? ---> Get Visa Fly Back
I assume you have to go to Japan because you can't apply for a Korean Visa while you are in Korea?
If I do it this way will I be doing method B?

Fly to Korea at your expense.
Find a job.
Employer applies for visa confirmation number (4-10 working days).
Fly to Japan to get E2 (now 4 working days).
Return on your E2.
Get medical. Get ARC.

Another question do you think I should be able to negotiate for more, the same, or less by going to Korea without a contract? I expect them to reimburse me for my flight to Korea since virtually everyone gets a free round trip. I am saving them a recruiter fee but I am not sure how much the average recruiter gets for placing a teacher. Then again I have the expense of flying and staying in Japan to get my Visa. Does the fact that I will already be in Korea and they can see me in person add anything to the table? |

You can try but dont' count on it.
Typically, if you fly in on your own dime, the dime is gone.
They will usually reimburse or pay for the air/hotel for the visa run.
Being there "in person" don't mean anything to them. They have lots who are "in Korea" to choose from.
It does however give you the chance to check the school out before you sign on the dotted line.
