|
|
So I irresponsibly let my ARC's expiration date slip by without even noticing. When I first applied for the ARC, it was August 15th of last year. I was under the impression that my ARC lasted for a year from the date of issuance, but unfortunately for me it was a year from the date of entry, and my date of entry was July 15th. I guess it never hit me to check the back of my card, but since the year mark was getting closer I checked, and to my horror my card was expired...
Now, I know I messed up, but I'm curious about the repercussions for letting this happen as well as how to best remedy this situation. I'm sure fines and long lines are inevitable, but will this mistake affect my current job and/or ability to remain in Korea or renew my card? I have an F4 visa is that means anything in this situation. |

Go to Kimmi, pay your fine and renew your ARC.
The longer you wait the higher it gets.

Would I need to bring all the docs I brought the first time around again (i.e. family history, photos, etc.) or just ARC and money?
Also, by any chance, do you happen to know around how much the fines are?
Thanks for the reply ttompatz by the way. I'm glad you're still on these forums^^ You gave me solid advice a year ago when I was getting all my docs together to come to Korea! |

You and your school could go to immigration, say you lost your ARC and need to renew one for another year. If you thought you had until August, then play that game. Go as soon as possible.
If the immigration officer is nice they might just warn you or say nothing. When your ARC expires you normally can get at least 30 days beyond the ARC card to square away things. They convert it to a tourist visa. Now with the D-10 they might even be more lenient.
Go in, if they call you out on it, pay the fine.
Also, check your ARC again to make sure it only says 1 year. From what I have researched online people are getting 2 years and saying the ARC is tied in as well.
I find it hard to believe they would give even an E2 visa and make the ARC period shorter. With an F4 visa, it sounds even more absurd. Replacing an ARC shouldn't be much and I would play that card first. |

I had that happen to me too. I just went and renewed it as you normally would be had to pay a fine on top of it. Can't remember how much it was but I remember being a bit annoyed by it |
