http://everydaykorea.com/2013/07/learning-english-hell-almost-50-of-surveyed-korean-students-claim/
Quote:
The survey was essentially to gauge student opinion of learning English by completing the sentence “To me, English is ____”. Here are some of the results:

■36% gave negative comments, like “hell”, “lifetime prison, “something I can’t stand”.
■35% gave positive comments, such as “the future”, “an essential language”, “a stepping stone”, “something I need”.

36% gave negative comments like "hell". 35% gave positive comments such as "the future"....... and 29% couldn't complete the sentence.

Interesting but only really revealing if they surveyed the kids on all the subjects they are forced to learn at that age and compared the results

After school study for the next ten years = hell

Studying anything in the eyes of children = boring (unless its 'gae-im teach-or!'). Compounded by the fact that they usually have another 6 hours of crap and homework to look forward to when they finish school everyday.

As for the future. You wont know what you need until the day comes that you need it. How is anyone supposed to know that?

Anyway, if they don't care about their future, I don't care either. As long as they shut up and don't disturb my class.

At 14 - I hated most things apart from history and when they changed the ciriculum from the Spanish Armada to the Industrial Revolution - I lost interest in that. So - kids don't like school - hardly a big shock but then I bet most of you were a right bunch of swotty little geeks who loved being stuck in a classroom on a sunny day as a young teenager. Confused

At 14 - I was a clock watcher and every single subject was BOOOOOOORING.

But I know what else is hell:
unemployment
dead-end jobs
unending dry-spell
marriage
girl friend
debt
car
rap music etc

So no use in complaining, it's one damned thing after another.
