what happens if a sponsor (director) doesn't go to immigration to release an employee from the E-2 (ie cancel the E-2)?.

They have 14 days to notify the immigration. If they don't comply, they pay fine. |

They have to notify immigration of your termination of employment (within 14 days of the termination) but that does NOT give a "release" to enable you to take another job.
Failing to do so may get them a fine.
