Does it start from the day I pick it up from the US Korean consulate? From my first day of employment, as indicated in my contract? Or some other time?

I'm trying to figure out when I can actually enter the country. And I don't want to enter early on a tourist visa and then do a visa run.

Thanks!

There are several dates associated with an E2 visa.

There is the date of issuance - when it is put into your passport by the consulate.

There is the expiry date (after which it is no longer usable). This can vary from as little as 90 days from issuance to as long as 1 year from issuance. (this is like the use before date).

You can't enter the country until you have the actual visa in your passport except as a tourist.

If you have an E2 visa in your passport it will be activated (begin your status of sojourn) upon your entry into Korea. From that point you have 90 days to register (with immigration) and get your ARC (at which point your visa becomes meaningless).
