I went to one place and the nurses said foreigners that can speak Korean well can donate blood, whatever that's supposed to mean. |

They don't want your blood. Remember, they are obsessed with the whole "pure blood" thing. If you go to a clinic they will likely a) turn you away with some absurd explanation (see the post above) or b) take your blood, all the while smiling and saying 'komupsumnida', then dump it the moment you leave the building. Can you imagine the reaction of some ajoshie waking up from surgery to find out he recived several pints of "impure blood" from a foreigner.
It's not a First World country yet - not by a country mile. |

At the risk of being labelled 'apologist', I am curious how you know this. I would imagine there is a more mundane administrative reason to turn away foreigners. |

According to this person

Foreigners living in Korea must wait 1 year to be allowed to give. They must also understand enough Korean to be able to pass the questionnaire. Foreigners must also have their Alien Registration Card to donate. |
The second sentence is probably what the nurse meant in "IPayInCash" 's experience.

Also here's at least one "ajoshie" who didn't mind receiving help/blood from foreigners.

The Red Cross stresses that donors must be able to speak Korean or have someone to interpret in order to give blood.
Rules on who can donate also make finding blood difficult. Donors must have been in the country for more than a year and people from certain countries, such as the U.K., cannot donate. Despite this, the number of foreign donors increased from 197 in 2000 to more than 2,000 last year. |

So, do you or do you not personally have experience doing what the op asked? Inference dictates that he/she was asking for personal experience from board members. Anyone, op included, could dig up some random links via Google. |

I'd like to give blood but can't, being from the UK. Seems bizzare but it's apparently because of the BSE scare years ago |

As far as I'm concerned with the crap exchange rate, rising prices, stagnant pay, the bastards are getting enough blood out of me as is. Not giving any extra. |

Korea has a Red Cross somewhere. Go there and ask where you can give blood because the Red Cross usually handles stuff like that. \
Don't Koreans have a different blood type than Westerners that predominates? If that's so it would be a good idea to give blood and let them stockpile your blood type. |

I'm British, so most likely I have BSE and can't give blood safely
