Trying to get a feel for what I'm actually applying for. I know Hagwons are NOT for me. And, when I was in Korea last time, I did work for a public elementary school. I wasn't too keen on working extra weeks in winter and summer when all the other teachers had that time off, but hey, I'll be applying for university positions when I get in-country (also as soon as they start opening up for the Spring semester). I really prefer college students since usually they take English on purpose (taught college in China).
Basically, if you currently work for or have recently worked for public schools, what was your experience? |

Public schools are going downhill. (More work, more paperwork, less vacation, more strictness.) Also, it is no longer possible to just do a year or two in a public school and then go straight to working in a university, in country or not. Your odds of getting a university position- unless extremely well qualified- are extremely thin. Even public schools are tough to get into these days. Inexperienced young females are preferred over experienced males. |
