Legally, within 90 days so you can get your ARC.

Practically, within a week or 2 of your arrival if your employer is on the up and up - you need your ARC to do just about everything from banking to getting internet in your apartment and you need the medical to get your ARC.

Totally depends on your employer - I arrived in Korea on a Sunday night, and had my medical at 9am on the Wednesday, along with 2 co-teachers, one who had been there a week longer than me, and one who had been there for a month.

Mine consisted of, blood & urine sample, chest x-ray, eye test, hearing test, weight & height check and a quick chat with a doctor, as far as I am aware it's fairly standard.

The test for the E2 is standardized and includes tests for STDs, drug screen panel, x-ray (for TB) and tests for communicable diseases.

^^ What he said.

I had an exam last week. Weight, height, vision, dexterity, chest measurement, 4 vails of blood samples (for HIV and drugs), urine test (marijuana), X-ray(TB), mouth and teeth,
stand up- sit down, blood pressure,

and Q & A from attending physician.
Q: Do you have any medical problems?
Me: No.
Q: Okay, you look very healthy.
Q: Do you smoke?
Me: No. Never.
Q: Do you like Korea?
Me: Yes, I love it.
Q: comment: Great have a nice day.

This was only my fourth exam in Korea. Apparently I didn't need it when I renewed with some of my previous schools.

The only noticeable difference was that upon return to pick up my results.
They were sealed, taped, and stamped. Handwritten in both Korean/English
were the words ,DO NOT OPEN. When I asked for a copy, they refused.

Always before, they had given me a piece of paper and a copy. No envelope, nothing. I must admit, I found this rather alarming. Although I was 100% certain there was 0 possibility of STD/HIV,DRUGS,ETC. I thought some other major serious illness was hiding in my body that had gone undetected until now. According to my friends,(physicians) Many illnesses have no symptoms until its too late.

However,my anxieties were subsided when my boss indicated that they thought I needed it for Korean Immigration to get a Visa, as opposed to the Department of Education.
He opened it and made me a copy before forwarding it the Department of Education. He said everything looked great.

What gives?

I have lived in Korea for several years now.

Most STDs/STIs are NOT tested for. For example, Herpes, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, Trichomoniasis.

They only check for AIDs and Syphilis.

A urine drug test is fine. If they do or start doing hair sample tests, then that would be a different story.
