any tips on good rates on won to yen? I've heard IBK has a decent rate, and you don't need an account. Thanks! |

Nothing specific - just get it done before leaving Korea. Once in Japan the rate is far less favorable. If you have any sort of membership cards, VIP claims, etc., flash those as well. |

Opening up a simple checking account with KEB with internet banking set up, and then ordering JPY on FX KEB website is one method I'd use.
KEB is usually competitive in baseline rates, and you get a preferential rate on top of that. However you're supposed to have sufficient KRW balance before you place your FX order. Also, you should have the usual authorization tools - 'digital certificate' and security card - on hand, as well as a printer hooked up so that you can immediately print out a receipt/voucher which you carry to the branch that you designate for collecting JPY notes. |

if it's a small amount it really doesn't matter which major bank (or shady back alley changer in itaewon) you use. the time cost saved going to the closest major bank would offset the travel costs and/or time costs of going to another bank.
fx rates only really start to hit hard with big numbers. |
