On top of multiple issues with my hagwon, who terminated me early, they also never paid into the National Pension Service (NPS). Of course, they were nice enough to take the money out of my check each month, they just never bothered to send any to the NPS.

I called the National Pension Service and they referred me to my local pension office. I worked with my local pension office for a few weeks and they finally tried to debit my hagwon's account, but alas there was no money in the designated account. My local pension office pretty much gave up on me and referred me back to the NPS. The NPS then told me that they can't enforce pension collection and referred me to some sort of 'insurance agency' that is supposedly responsible for collecting pension.

After a few rounds of phone tag and talking to a few representatives the two pieces of advice they gave me were: 1. Call my hagwon myself and tell them they have to pay my pension (been there, done that) and 2. Just wait 1 year and see if they make any deposits. Really, really?!?

Has anyone else had to fight to get pension out of there schools? Is there a specific office/phone number/person you spoke with who helped you?

It just amazes me that every official I speak with tells me that my school has to pay (it's the law), but no one knows who's responsible for making them pay.

Maybe that's why. If you were terminated early, then there isn't as much available to collect on. The reward is not as great as someone who is reporting a school who hasn't paid the whole year.

Yes, because it is possible to not have any deposits for a year. Some teachers don't check with the pension office until they are ready to leave and then they find out nothing was given.

In your case "early" means 5 months or less. What is that? About 900,000 RMB at most? If you worked less than 5 months, it's less than 900,000. I am guessing they decided the 2nd month into it to fire you, so there is about 360,000-540,000. If you did get a 4th month in, then they were slow to process the termination or were looking for a replacement.

It might not be worth fighting for it unless you have another school.

The pension office SHOULD handle this issue. Sounds like somebody isn't doing their job. Tell them you want to make a FORMAL COMPLAINT. There IS A PROCESS, its mentioned in the National Pension Act.

Also, complain to the Labor Board. Tell them your pay was docked each month, and you have no clue why. (if you tell them you know it was for pension, they will refer you to the pension office, so just say it was a "unknown" deduction.) You could at least get your deduction back.

Also, did they deduct medical insurance? Check with the National Health Insurance Service, they likely defaulted on those payments too. If you can get the National Health Insurance Service on board with collections, usually the pension office will follow. Actually, the National Health Insurance Service COLLECTS all social security payments, including pension, so if they see a problem, they can likely sort the pension out for you too.

Also, check the National Tax Office, usually if they are screwing you on pension and health, they are screwing you on the income tax deductions too. Just make complaints everywhere and make life a hell for your ex-director.
