I'm applying for the GEPIK program, and everything is going well, except the recruiter told me she has to call my previous schools for a reference check.
My first school I'm not too worried about...I guess it depends who they talk to. I was there for 6 months; my contract was cut in half cuz they though the job would be too stressful. i didn't renew, but i left on pretty good terms.
The last job I was at, well, I just had my friend call them to get a "reference" on me, and the place said that there were two foreigners kicked out, and I was one of them. Actually, I wanted to leave, and didn't want to come in again, and the director's wife screamed and cursed and me and said not to come in tomorrow. So I guess it was mutual?
Anyway, I'm wondering if there is ANY POSSIBLE CHANCE I will be able to get a job at a public school (outside of Seoul, in the Gyeonggi province). The only reason I'm alive right now is because I'm trying to get back to Korea (well, not literally, but like "emotionally" alive), but there is NO WAY IN HELL I'm ever going to work at a Fcking hagwon again.
I'd like to work at an English village, but I'm afraid I might have the same problem.
Any advice?
Or even general advice on how to get back to Korea (without thousands and thousands of dollars) |

I have no experience with bad references. But I did have a recruiter say to me once, "I'm glad you have very good references, I usually have to lie to the school about the prospective employees."
Translation: Recruiters are not George Washington and the Cherry tree.
They will lie if need be, to place teachers to get that placement fee.
Just wait it out until someone prepays your flight.
If you're NOT really a bad teacher with major issues, I wish you the best.
If you are a Bad teacher, I hope ...well, you know |

Legally what you're talking about is getting a job with no reference from one place that you taught at. I am pretty sure it's not legal to give out a bad reference. As far as your question goes It is possible for you to get another Korean teaching. Like any other job they may care about the lack of reference or they may not. |

That kind of reference is only preliminary. They contact the schools also. |
