Been through a ton of old posts already and havent seen any information that was solid.

Does anyone know what is covered by the national healthcare plan when it comes to dental work?

I've been to three different clinics and all three have said different things regarding what will and wont be covered.

Need three things done:

1. Cleaning / checkup - 2 clinics said covered, one said not covered
2. Need a small cavity taken care of - 1 said covered, two said not
3. Possibly need a wisdom tooth removed - again, 1 said covered and two said no

As expected the little neighborhood one next to me at Hansung uni basically seemed to be guessing about what was covered and wouldnt give me any sort of solid quote. The other two more 'professional' places had wildly different quotes, both of which seemed to be pulled from thin air.

On a side note, does anyone have any good clinics to recommend that are not in Gangnam?

Thanks in advance

A Korean told me that cleaning and scaling are covered. Fillings are not. Root canals are not. Extractions are covered in certain situations, though impacted wisdoms are not. Surgical extractions (cutting belown the gum line) are not.
My girl friend has extra dental insurance because she says national only covers the very basics. I'm not in Seoul so can't help with dentist recommendations.

To be honest, back home you come across the same stuff. Huge variation between quotes on the same procedure. It's infuriating.

As of this year, national insurance covers one cleaning a year (I think it costs around 20,000 won now with insurance). I'm not sure about the other items you mentioned, but doubt much will be covered to be honest.

'Root Canal Treatment' is definitely covered, but a 'crown' is not covered.

Exactly, I have had three root canals in Korea and all have been covered. The crown is not.
