What are the chances I still get to go to Korea? I have been working on this since March. My fingerprints were rejected 3 times! I had issues with my 2nd round documents that delayed things even more. My original start date was in June, and it keeps getting moved out. I have a job with a public school in rural Korea, and they found a job for me at a high school. It was going to be October, but they found this last minute job after canceling my last job. Now no one can find my package. My tracking info on the package says it was delivered at 5:56 pm on Wednesday, and the delivery person says that she wasn't there that day, but that is odd because that is too late- they close at 4. The Korean consulate says they do not have it. I'm at a loss. I've been through a great deal through this process, and it seems like everything that could have gone wrong did. I so regret using USPS. Could they issue me a new NOA? Would they? I've contacted my recruiter, but I'm not likely to hear back from him until Monday. Sometimes he replies on Saturday, but usually late in the evening.

There is NOTHING your recruiter can do. This is between you and USPS until you come to the conclusion you need a new passport. Then you will need to start the procedure all over again.

I suggest you get all your ducks in a row, then look for a job. Don't try to get a school and then ask them to wait while you get your documents sorted.

This is unfortunate, but it is not part of working and living in Korea. It just reflects problems that can come up before you go. Good luck next time, and maybe your current package will be found in the next hour, day, or week. After that, say goodbye and move on.

The USPS should probably be gotten rid of entirely and mail completely privatized to remove the threat of people mistakenly believing their mail will be sent safely and securely. I'm sorry to hear that the US Mail messed up your life. It's best to spend extra money and always use FEDEX or DHL for important documents or UPS for important larger packages when you want to know your mail will reach the wanted destination.

EVEN IF Korea issues a new NOA (they usually won't) and another signed copy of your contract (not usually needed at this point if a NOA has already been issued) you can't do anything till you get a new passport.

Depending on how long the replacement passport takes you may be looking at a February (with all new documentation) start date for a PS since school will be returning for 2nd 1/2 of the term in a week or so.

Also be aware that if you are a no-show after a NOA has been issued (they don't care why you didn't get on the plane) you may be permanently ignored for PS jobs through EPIK (or GEPIK - whichever one issued the NOA - as the case may have been).

Here's how it has gone with my OE. They offered me a job in October, then said we have you one in September. Then, they sent me my NOA. I got it, then two days later, my recruiter said "Wait, don't apply for your visa yet. They canceled your job, it will be October." Then a few days later he said "Go ahead and get it, they found you a high school job for September." They are currently hiring for a start day in October online. I can get a passport in one day if I drive to an issuing center, which I will. I'm not worried about the logistics of it being possible, just the possibility of them giving up on me and not sending another NOA. They do currently need teachers for October. My recruiter said he'd check with them on Monday. I really hope it works out.

Would receiving a NOA from a Office of Education that isn't EPIK or GEPIK (but separate for their province) bar me from getting work with EPIK or GEPIK, ttompatz?

Not unless you were referred to the CNOE by EPIK.

I should have pointed this out earlier. Contact the FBI and tell them the Post Office lost your CBC. They will extradite one for you I guarantee it as long as you can get a statement from the post office or have a tracking number, something to prove it. Probably even without if they keep records of CBC's issued.

Ok. Thanks guys. If it comes to it, it would be awesome if I could request another copy of my FBI CBC. However, the one I have is in Korea, not lost in the mail. My NOA is what was lost in the mail.

Curiously, do you know why they were rejected 3 times? That may sound like a dense question but I'm just curious whether the FBI gave you any feedback. Was it the wrong form or were there stray marks on it? Were they bad prints and, if so, did a police officer take the prints or did you do it yourself?

I submitted over twenty fingerprint cards to the FBI. I went to seven different police stations (in six different cities, 3 different states), got live scan and ink, did some myself, even had a US Marshall do them for me (which were rejected even though he said they use the same technology as the fbi and their machine accepted them.) The best set I got were from a station in FL while i was on vacation that does a lot of prints for immigrants. They were rejected because of low quality characteristics I think is what they said. The deltas of some of my fingers are basically nonexistent. They finally had a live technician examine them because the machine the fbi uses would not read them. This all took over 4 months.

Who verifies the prints are actually yours if you do it yourself? In Canada, a police officer needs to sign off on it, as well as most other places with common sense.

There's a place on the FBI form that someone taking the prints must sign off on. Doesn't that need to be complete?

Might as well not even be a background check if any criminal can just substitute someone else's prints to pass the check.

Substitute the prints but then the name and particulars won't match the passport.
