It just is. I try to like, I really do.
I haven't had it in a while and thought I'd give it another try tonight so my wife orders some.
Yup. Same nasty smelling pork that seems as if it's been sitting on the counter before they boiled it for the past few days (who the F boils pork and sells it to you anyway?) with semi-cold fat hanging off the end of it, with nasty condiments to make it go down easier/worse, with some dirty sock smelling sauce.
Bo Ssam should just die off with the older generation. I can't wait for these Lotteria Korean kiddos to grow up and create more delicious restaurants. |

Well you're post is a little vile isn't it? I think there was another thread about how Korean food is overrated. Then someone (Adam Carolla I think) went on about how you have to find the right place for the right food. I think that applies to Bo Ssam as well. Given the right restaurant and the right sauces it's actually very delicious. I am biased though because I like it more than I hate it. There are some places where it really is absolutely terrible.
As for the older generation dying off, I think that's too harsh.
I know a younger guy who owns a restaurant that is geared towards foreigners and Koreans alike and he is thriving. He asks me and other foreigners for advice, and I think what he has that some of the older generation might be missing is an ability to listen to what foreigners say about Korean food without taking too much offense. The result is a successful business and as far as I know he plans on expanding.
That being said, I dislike some Korean food but I really don't want to see it disappear. Why would you want to see such a distinct form of cooking fade away? |

Oh yes, the stupid Koreans and their boiled pork. Never mind the fact that bo ssam is actually super trendy in the States right now, having been caught up in the foodie wave, and it's not even boiled... |

bboossaamm is to Ssanjang as crackers are to cheese.
It's merely the sauce delivery mechanism. |

Yes, thats right Donald Trump. The restaurant business really needs to focus on the massive foreign population in Korea.

You don't have to like it but wanting it to die off is a tad extreme. Have you tried not eating it? |

That goes against the Dave's ethos; if I don't like something:
(a) it is a moral/cultural/intellectual failing of those who do like it, and
(b) it should be forcibly removed from the face of the earth to protect my delicate sense of self-worth. |

Well he does, and he is doing well. No reason to disrupt a good thing unless you are just hard headed and would rather fail than innovate. |

Taste wise it's ok. I just don't like the smell. Korean food culture doesn't innovate or progress, which is fine, but I wouldn't expect bo-ssam to go away any time soon. |

We get that a couple of times a month at my school in the cafeteria. I've always liked it. Most of the other NETs detest it and order western food in on that day. I make sure that I get down there before most of the other teachers and pick out the pieces with minimal fat; probably no big deal for the Ks anyway, as they seem to prefer that fatty cut. |

I hope he doesn't dislike fish sauce as well and want to remove it from the face of the earth. |

Didn't like bossam at all my first year in Korea, then went to a restaurant near my gf's work near daerim on lines 2/7 and thought it was divine. They served great meat and made a kimchi that went perfectly with it.
In short, totally depends on where you have it. |
