It looks like my desktop is on its last legs and I'm thinking about going back to a laptop as my primary computer. I originally went with a desktop as it doubles as an HTPC, but I'm thinking of getting something smaller later on to do the same task.

Outside of Yongsan and online, what are some good retailers (especially in terms of A/S)? I'm debating between something from Samsung (the Ativ line) or maybe going back to Apple.

if you want bang for your buck there is no better deal in korea (and actually even the usa) than the pre-assembled laptops you can get on places like gmarket.

http://item2.gmarket.co.kr/English/detailview/Item.aspx?goodscode=374610792&pos_shop_cd=EN&pos_class_cd=90000002&pos_class_kind=T

they range from very very cheap and basic to flat out the most powerful gaming laptops you can buy, all for much more reasonable prices than any major manufacturers and especially gaming specialty companies like alienware offer.

edit: if you look at the link i posted it's a new laptop with a/s, warranty, latest gen intel proc (haswell, which can't even be found in most laptops in america yet), a discreet and fairly powerful gpu, all for 799,000 won.

I'm not sure if that's really a great buy.... if only because of a fairly weak gpu - though if you're not a gamer, it's not bad at all. The brand name is yet another thing that one should take into consideration - having done a bit of research, hansung seems to be a rebranded clevo, that's not bad, since the reviews for clevo notebooks are pretty positive.

For a gamer though, I'd advise looking for a notebook with better gpu -

I wanted to say lenovo y500 - it has NVIDIA Dual SLI GT650M and it costs only 1000 dollars on amazon, but on gmarket you'll pay 50% more, so it's all relative.

To be sure, there are many notebooks on gmarket which have very decent specs, including gpu, all for a very reasonable price. In fact, here is yet another hansung thingy -

It's only slightly more expensive than the notebook posted earlier and it has bigger hard drive and gt750m, which is pretty good by today's standards(much better than gt740m) - though I wish it had DDR5 memory, but alas, you can't have everything.

Not a gaming laptop, but has a good i5 cpu and decent graphics for its cost.
