I just interviewed with Readingtown in Daegu for a mid-Oct start. It seems like a great place to work, but I'm a little concerned with only getting a 5 min break between classes. Nevertheless, I'm not afraid to work hard and time often flies when you're teaching. Smile

1. Have you ever taught before? I don't think 5 minutes is a long enough break period and it will become a problem for you. If you have taught before maybe you have a plan which I don't see.

2. When are you going to do the set up for the next class?
If you appear unprepared it will affect your ability to lead the class. You need to be respected and that could ruin it for you. The next class paid for instruction not watching you get things together.

3. When are you going to get something to drink and use the restroom? Likely not during your class unless they are very well behaved and busy doing some activity which does not need supervision. It can be done but it's touch and go with some kids.

I was visiting in Daegu a few weeks ago. I have a good friend who lives there. This reminds me of a story he was telling me a couple of months back. He interviewed with Readingtown. He said it looked like a decent job. He was talking to the director/manager and some guy staggers out of one of the back rooms. It was a foreign teacher. He had just awakened. The guy/foreign teacher was living in the school. Also, he was using a table for a bed in the room he lived in. My friend decided to pass on the job.

Maybe he was illegal which would explain why he would be willing to put up with such conditions. Anyway, Daegu is a big city. There could be more than one branch of Readingtown in the city.

It depends. How long is each class? How many classes do you have to teach in a row? It might not be so bad if you get at least a 30 minute dinner break halfway through. You could also ask for the contact information (e-mail/phone #) of a previous or current foreign teacher if you really want to find out about a certain school.
