I know that both options are possible and wanted to get some feedback from people who have "been there". I know recruiters have a bad reputation and maybe it doesn't make sense to include a middle man in the process...unless maybe the middle man can provide some extra guidance that would turn out to be useful.

I recently had an interview with a recruiter about the EPIK positions. She had a good attitude about everything and was very specific about the information and the steps going forward. Additionally, she said that her organization would provide interview tips and lesson plan templates when it came time for the EPIK interview and such. I've done a bit of research so I was already aware of most of what she said, but there were some minor things I didn't know about that made me wonder what other valuable information I might get from her.

So, I dunno. What do you guys think? The comparison I'm making in my head is the difference between visiting a new city with only a guide book to show you the spots versus visiting a new city that a friend lives in. I know the recruiters are out to make money, so making a comparison to a friend isn't quite right, but you get the idea.

This isn't Thailand or Taiwan.

There is no advantage to not using a recruiter for a PS job (providing they are authorized to recruit for EPIK).

This is from beentheredonethat777: Use a recruiter if you need extra support, guidance, or whatever you called it.

If you are self-confident, discerning, and reasonably intelligent;do direct contact with the school yourself. This is the best choice of the two.

Most of my jobs (many) in Korea have been direct contact. ALL of my public school jobs have been direct contact with the school.

I had a couple of recruiters try the "bait and switch" method on me. NOT. When I recognized what was happening, they threatened me!

Many recruiters are concerned only with making the almighty WON!/dollar/rand/pound/AUD. WORD.
