They've been gassing kids. And they were warned about it too. |

Yes, thank goodness the children of the Middle East have the USA looking out for their best interests, given their own government evidently enjoy gassing civilians for the Hell of it.
The western media portrays Assad as a villain of such cartoonish evil that he resembles a comic book bad guy more than a living human being. "Oh no, Lex Luthor is going to gas the puppy orphanage! Only Superman can stop him now!" |

Not saying it's the right thing to do. Just saying it's not surprising in the circumstances. I don't know what the right thing to do is. Have you got any ideas? |

Bring every last American soldier home from foreign lands and use American tax dollars to rebuild the crumbling infrastructure of the US, for openers. |

Would that include South Korea?
Why should we be the world's police? If anyone hasn't noticed we have been building our military presence in Asia for the last 2 years. Could a China/USA military conflict be in the near future?
I wonder how Russia is going to respond if we go into Syria? Russia has close ties with the Syrian government. |

Cease interfering in the domestic affairs of other nations absent a near consensus in the international community. Sometimes troublesome things happen in any given nation, but unless they are so troublesome that the rest of the world agrees they need to be forcibly stopped, such events are probably being used as a pretense for achieving other, less admirable objectives. |

Well it would certainly be an interesting experiment to close your doors and give all the world's dictators a free rein in their country or the surrounding ones. Would it make the world a better place? personally I don't think so. As a non US citizen I'm pretty glad the US has the biggest and best equpped army in the world, even if they make mistakes with it occasionally. |

You are not alone. Governments around the world love the fact that they have gotten a free ride in their defense spending the last 60 years. Do you think Canada's social spending would be as generous if they had to militarize to the point of being able to fend off the Soviets during the Cold War?
The US govt is not altruistic. Everything they do militarily around the world is to serve some purpose the elites in the US deem necessary to remain the elites. This talk of democracy and human rights is just a smoke screen. End it all now. Our infrastructure sucks and our taxes are too high. The rest of the world are a bunch of ingrates anyhow. |

The thing is, foreign intervention doesn't always bring about positive results. Even if it did, who's going to pay for all the world policing? Good luck funding a quest to stop every atrocity in the world. Not to mention the US never had a problem with nut job dictators as long as they were pro-US.

Old news. That's been on the table for two months. US won't intervene because:
1. Russia will object
2. Rebels are sunni majority who are demanding for religious freedom to oppress the minority anyway. Helping the rebels won't bring peace to the region. If the rebels get power, things will turn for the worse in Lebanon.
3. Haven't heard from Rush Limbaugh, yet. |

And yet you would have been deprived of your favorite platform for acting sanctimonious if the US and its allies hadn't gotten involved in the Korean War. |

The Korean War was fundamentally international from the beginning, which obviously exempts it from my admonition against interfering in domestic matters.
Look 12ax7, we're both (presumably reasonable) adults, so I'm just going to say this: I don't want to converse with you. You're such a fundamentally annoying person that everything you post is terrible to read; you say stupid, poorly thought out things which you can't back up, and then fall back to snark or deflection in your attempts at Internet face saving (the times when you try to present yourself as a well-studied expert on a field while simultaneously refusing to exhibit your expertise are particularly exasperating). You're almost the Platonic Form of a bullshitter. Even when I agree with your underlying point I don't like reading your posts. And hey, that's fine, you don't need my approval to wander the Internet like some Messiah of Inane Prattle, but surely you at least have the dignity to not pester me ever again after I've explicitly requested it, yes?
I don't expect to ever see you quoting or responding to me again. Thanks in advance. |

Dignity? You know no such thing.
You see, the problem with the internet is that it is democratic. I know the concept is hard to swallow for someone as sanctimonious as you, but it is what it is. Whether you like it or not, your right to be an insufferable pedant and fussbudget does not have precedence over my right to point it out.
My only mistake was reading your comment. I tend not to as a general rule. |
