|
|
I have just discovered that my gf has my alien card. She returned from vacation a week earlier than me for work and for some reason wandered off with my alien card... Am I going to have any problems returning without this? my flight is in 5 hours. Does anyone have any experience of this? Thanks. |

Well the question to ask is what kind of problems?
I think in the end you should be able to get back in with minimal problems. They will likely just check passport in relation to there records. Yet you could expect some confusion as person will automatically assume no card, you are tourist. So recommendation is to be patient and consider waiting for a lull where you can take some time.
You might consider saying you lost your card!
As to a fine? I am going to say no.
One problem found in a search is that the airline might refuse letting you board. They want proof of onward travel or permission to stay in Korea. |

Another thing you can do is play stupid. Tell them you didn't need the ARC when you left, just the passport because you didn't leave for good (which would have meant you would have to turn it in, why have an Alien Registration Card for Korea in another country like Japan?). Tell them it is not lost. you know exactly where it is, and it is at home in Korea.
Have your girlfriend take a picture of it next to a newspaper date for proof, LOL
This way you might be able to avoid a fine if they decide that if it is lost you have to pay to get a new one. |

Losing it or returning without it are NOT crimes.
There is no fine.
He MAY encounter problems at the airport trying to board his flight.
Immigration won't be a problem. He will be on record in the computer. Just make sure he lets the officer at passport control know so the confusion is minimized.

I lost my wallet and ARC a couple of weeks ago and contacted the Korean Embassy in Phnom Penh, they said I wouldn't be let on the plane without some sort of re-entry permit even with a photocopy of my ARC. I managed to get a re-entry permit at the embassy which involved getting a verifcation of employment emailed to them. but in your situation thats going to be problematic.
Just hope you can play dumb |

I've never been asked by an airline at check-in to produce my alien card, just my passport.
Funny, come to think of it. The last entry in my passport regarding visa status is dated several years ago, otherwise just stamps saying departed or arrived on such & such a date. Obviously the airline has no idea about my current visa status. Maybe the fact that I'm coming back to Korea on a return ticket satisfies them.
Best luck. |

If your passport is not multiple entry, can you get back into Korea without an ARC card? |

Then they would have visa problems, not ARC issues and it wouldn't matter if he had it.
If I were in this situation and waiting to go through inspection, I would just hand the passport over and wait. Until they told me "ARC card", I wouldn't say anything. |

Yes it would matter. If your visa is single entry (like for Canadians) you are not allowed to re-enter Korea without an ARC card. |

Old news. People with E2s have automatic multiple reentry. |

If your visa is single entry, then you would be entering a second time. You enter Korea once, you leave for vacation (summer in this case?) or whatever, then you try to re-enter. I think it is safe to assume this person has a multiple-entry visa, but I am not quite convinced you can enter twice or need an ARC card which is issued after your single entry.
Feel free to explain if I don't understand the process. |

If you are on an E2 when you apply for your ARC I bet they update things to show multiple entry in immig's computers. I know back in the old days when I changed contracts and got a new visa that was single entry or recently when I extended my sojourn I applied for a multiple entry permit at the same time and paid 50k.
I actually had no problems a couple of weeks ago checking in at BKK, they didn't ask for my ARC etc and when I got here they didn't even bother to look at the re-entry permit in passport I got in Phnom Penh.
Now getting a new ARC...thats been taking a while, they said 3 weeks and still nothing after almost 4 |

All I am saying is that I have Canadian coworkers and on their E2 visa it says Single Entry. The travel agents told them they were fine to reenter Korea as long as they had their ARC card. |

As long as an ARC has been issued (you are "registered") then you have re-entry privileges for as long as your ARC remains valid.
You do NOT need the physical card to return to Korea but having it with you does expedite the process (no waiting while they figure things out or ask a bunch of questions about why you don't have it with you).

good to know now, where were you last month? biggest worry I had once I got a hold of my cc people was getting back into Korea, though the Korean Embassy in Phnom Penh wasn't that far from my guest house and they were very nice along with the staff at my univ in getting them the paperwork (heck everybody except Woori Bank and the staff at my guest house were super in helping me) |
