How do I apply for my husband's dependent visa? I asked my recruiter, and he said I didn't need to bring my marriage certificate, but to talk to the consulate. I leave Sunday, and definitely don't have time to apply for his visa here in the states. So what's up with this? I thought I would be able to apply for it when I got my ARC.

I just spoke to my korean consulate, and they said there is no such thing as a dependent visa for my husband!

Yes there is. I know a South African woman who has her husband here on a spouse visa. You should be able to apply for it here. Bring a few copies of your marriage certificate, preferably apostilled if possible.

Yes, I know that there is. I have no idea why she argued that. I have a feeling she just didn't want to mess with me today.

It's the F-3 visa. Many people have gotten them for a dependant spouse.

Thanks for that link. However, I've already checked that website. It doesn't say if I can get it in korea (not clearly, anyway)

Since time is short and paperwork is late your husband has 2 choices.

Stay where he is and when you get your ARC he can get a visa confirmation number for an F3 (dependent family) and follow you.

Come with you. Enter Korea on a tourist stamp. AFTER you get your ARC you can apply to change his status to F3.

You WILL need an official (government issued) copy of your marriage certificate to prove the family relationship.
You will also need some documents from within Korea:

your passport
your ARC
his passport
marriage certificate
certificate of employment (to show you are still working)
application
fees (can't remember for sure but 60k won for the change of status and ARC comes to mind but it may be marginally higher).

Thanks for the info. That eases my stress a bit. I'm finding a lot of info now about the laws changing and no longer being able to do it within korea, but having to do in in your home country. Hopefully, if nothing else, we could do a visa run to Japan or somewhere. My recruiter says I should have applied for it when I filled out my visa application. Our wedding didn't take place until after I applied :/

You must have been looking at some old websites... the home country visa application and consular interview requirement went out in 2010 for work visas and was never in place for F3s.
