I am just wondering....
I have found alot of things being said in the English-language Korean newspapers (including Arrirang TV and such other forms of media) to be very bias when it comes to certain topic.
So, I sometimes turn to this board to find out about some of the things happening in Korea.
My question to you is......
If you had only these two choices...
Which would you choose to believe-
1. The posters on Dave's?
2. The Korean media? |

I'm gonna have to say Dave's ESL Cafe.
The only reason is that there's enough different posters here that I will probably get at least two or three different opinions on any one event (as biased as those opinions are... but opinions by their very nature are biased). I don't think that would happen from a Korean newspaper. |

I think a happy medium...take some from both on board and use a lot of common sense. |

Public media by it's very nature is incapable of acurately representing the truth, and the english language media in Korea is simply worthless.
Dave's is better, though that's not saying a lot.
I chose none. |

There should be more choices. It depands on the media but most of them have huge credibility issues. And of course the opinion in Dave's is too.....

I think you will find a wide range of opinions on Dave's esl. There is a large anti Iraq faction, a large anti Bush faction, and a faction that will passionately defend Korea where they percieve racism is at work. To simply label the opinion on Dave's as "too West" doesn't do this site any justice. Indeed, I've learnt a lot from people on this board. Mostly those who I have often found myself in disagreement with. (Bobster and Gord spring to mind.)
In fairness to the Korean media I think the English language papers are at the lower end of it's ladder. There are better offerings on TV. I love the police documentaries! |

You have put it right.
I've said it before but language barrier(Korean) plays a big role. Not many people can read Korean newpapers and follow Korean TVs. The main sources of news and it's interpretation that are availiable to many posters in Dave's is too limited.
It is interesting to see how information gathered by ; ultra conservative media, lot's of young kids they teach, selected adults(mostly Korean students wanting to learn English more eagerly than others, some co-workers, their Korean girl friends) and the raw scenes of everyday life from the streets can influence a certain perspective on Korean issues.
I only believe poll results posted here. They seem to be more balanced than the general tone reigning this place.
I wish more english speaking Koreans could contribute in this site to balance things even more. But it isn't likely to happen any time soon. I can even hear their heads shaking with a quick click on their way out of this board. |

No, the question is between the two given choices. |

On the subject of Korea, I pretty much don't believe either. Posters here are too subjective, lashing out at Korea because of the drunk they ran into on the bus last night, and Korean media, though improving, is deeply conservative and influenced by who-knows-what forces.
