Hello, my name's Toby and I hope I've posted this in the right section of the forums.
I'm Australian and I'm looking to go to Korea at the end of the year to teach English. I'm hoping that some of you can give me advice on what kind of company to pursue, which to avoid and generally just point me in the right direction.
Previously I've taught English in Japan and Thailand but from what my friends tell me Korea's a little different.
When I went to Japan, I went there on a working holiday visa and then looked for work when I got there, from what I hear about Korea, I need to be sponsored by a company before I go, is this correct?
Also I've heard stories about being locked into very attractive contracts that include accommodation and airfares but allow very little freedom, they also over-charge for the accommodation and rip you off with end of year bonuses and holiday pay, so any advice at all to help me avoid any unpleasantries would be very much appreciated.
Also, what is the average monthly wage for an ESL teacher in Korea? From the advertisements on the home page it looked to be about 2.3mil won.
I have a Bachelor of Arts and post Graduate degree in Education.
Please feel free to share your teaching in Korea experiences,
Cheers! |

You've been listening to too many takes while sitting in the pub in Thailand.
Start with the FAQs.
