So my current employer is unhappy that I made her get my National Health Insurance and wants me to quit.

She started by taking away vacations that she already okayed then had the manger tell me that if I was unhappy I could leave and she would pay for flight back home and and 6 months of my severance.

I figured it might not be the worse idea rather than getting fired. but she told me to write a letter of resignation then she would deal with the other request.

this sounded like a trap to me. I was hoping if anyone knew anything about discharging a contract by mutual agreement in Korea and how I would work in the things she said she would give me. Please help they have really started pressure me and I am worried they will just find reasons to write me up to just fire me.

*also just found they have not been paying my Pension. sigh*
So would I call the Labor board or Pension people. I found both numbers.

Having you covered by the National Health Insurance was too much of a burden for her? Given it will cost her a couple of million to replace you, you gotta wonder if she's trying to hide something from the government.

The lengths hagwons go to evade paying into pension and health insurance can be pretty impressive. What's more impressive is how strongly the pension and health insurance offices support the fraud on the part of the hagwons.

What is flight severance Question

Tell her you will abscond from this exchange of threats and work, get paid, and transfer to another school.

Why would any intelligent person work with a promise to leave a country? That is insurance for the school to not pay that teacher.

Ok, flight severance? Pay me my BS severance while you are at it. And I also want my Letter of Release severance.

Flight severance, too funny Laughing

Do not write a letter of resignation.

Instead write up an agreement for the early termination of the employment contract between you and the school - that both of you have to sign. This contract should set your last day of work, final day in the school provided housing and terms such as payment of your return airfare, final month's pay and 6 months of your severance along with a date for these payments to be made to you - on your last day of work if possible, and prior to your actual planned departure date. Expect to stay in a hotel for a few days so you can move out, collect your money, go to the Pension Office and still make your flight. It may be better to put a fixed cash amount for the airfare that is lowest available rather than depend on the school to buy the ticket or to have to haggle over a ticket price later. Keep this number low enough so that your boss will see it's a good deal.

Don't mention the unpaid Pension at this time. After you get your other money and before you fly out you can go to the Pension Office to request your cash. They will collect from your boss for you.

[1345] the foreigner help line is your friend. Call them and ask you questions directly to someone who will speak to you in English, and they most likely help you out. Saves reading all of the posts that might give you correct information. I will say that the employer has broken several laws according to the Labor Board and NPS, so they are wanting you out of their hair ASAP.
