|
|
Just finished reading this. In short, the author details how "the capitalist distribution system does not service human needs [e.g. feeding the hungry, providing affordable housing, and so forth], and in fact is generally contemptuous of them, functioning solely to produce private profit." He frames much of this article along that premise. He also details how free-market advocates often directly benefit from many of the things they regularly denounce (e.g. government intervention, "getting a free ride", etc).

The 10 inefficiencies are...
1.) Product duplication
2.) Systematic unemployment
3.) Cost shifting [to the public]
4.) Waste of unsold goods
5.) The inefficiency of hierarchies
6.) Planned obsolescence [i.e. products designed to fail]
7.) Price gouging [particularly in crises like floods and earthquakes]
8.) Creation of false desires
9.) Parasitic "jobs"
10.) Inefficient distribution patterns |

Many of those sound more like the problems with Communism not Capitalism. Several years back I had a hole in my stomach cauterized using an endoscope. They clamped an artery and cauterized it. What other kind of a system is going to come up with a device like that? It takes money to develop things. |

No, it takes labor to develop things. The fact that you (and the average person) thinks in terms of money instead of in terms of work done is a non-trivial problem, since it allows societal parasites to masquerade not only as productive members of society, but the most productive members. |

You do realize that the Soviets did develop a decent amount of technology, and had an impressive space program, etc. |

I downloaded the article and will take a look at it when I've got some more time.
I just want to point out, though, that I've heard many people bash capitalism for various reasons, but the fact is, there isn't a single capitalist country on the planet today.
And no, I'm not being facetious. There are countries that are partly capitalist but many of the things people think they hate about capitalism, aren't even capitalism.
Here's an example definition from vocabulary.com:
Capitalism is an economic system featuring the private ownership of business wealth and the free and unfettered (emphasis mine) operation of trade markets.
I can't think of a single country that exists today where capitalism is practiced, and if you've got an example to prove me wrong I'd love to hear it. |

Free and unfettered trade markets?
