My wife will be giving birth at the end of this month. We are all alone as her parents are busy in Busan and mine are in the states. My understanding is that paid paternity leave in South Korea is three days but if anyone has any imput on the matter, I'd greatly appreciate it.

I mentioned it to my company and they'll send a sub but I think they are planning on subtracting it from my wages. I'd like advice on how to deal with the company as well.

Thanks~

I thought it was 7, but either way I never took it because I would have had to make up my classes.

Had been working at my university for about 5 years at that point. My kid was born a couple of weeks before the final exams, so that's also a huge part of the reason why I didn't bother asking for a leave of absence. Besides, my wife gave birth in her hometown, so my mother-in-law was there and so was my mother (she had come specifically to help out). So, it's not as if my wife lacked support.

This is what I believe is provided under Korean law.

I believe the current law is 3 paid, 2 unpaid for everyone.

However, a law has recently been passed allowing fathers to take up to one year off, at 25% of their pay. My husband is doing this right now. However, he is Korean, and had to fill out a ton of forms, so it might be tough for a non-Korean to take this kind of leave.

But just so you know, it exists.
