|
|
I found some similar topics on this, but most are dated from 3 years+ ago.
I'm heading to the Philippines (Boracay) in a couple days. Going to stay there for 4 days so I wanted to exchange around 500,000 won for pesos. I have heard a number of things which I am unsure about:
1. There is a limit of 10,000 pesos that you can take into the Philippines
Q: That's a bit under 250,000 won, does that mean I should only exchange that amount of money at Incheon, then change the rest at the airport in the Philippines (I'm flying into Kalibo).
2. It's better to take U.S. dollars into the Philippines.
Q: Related back to my first question, if I am only allowed to take 10,000 pesos in, should I change the rest at Incheon for US currency? Then exchange the US currency for pesos at Kalibo airport?
Thanks |

I am sure about #2. They love the sight of USD and you will get a lot more pesos per dollar. Take 5 $100 bills. Exchange at airport or in a money/exchange shop. You get MORE per hundred. I went in JULY 2013! |

1) True. Buy a few thousand pesos to get you from Kalibo to your hotel on Boracay. Don't buy a lot of pesos in Korea. The rate isn't particularly good.
2) Take US dollars for your vacation.
Do NOT exchange at the airport in Kalibo. (there isn't much there anyway).
Use the money changers on Boracay as you need them.

By the way, I heard there was a roughly ~700 Peso tax at the airport on your way back. Is this per person or per group? |

Are you sure it was 700 pesos? The passenger service charge for international flights out of Manila and Cebu is 550 pesos. |

I have heard 550 before too, but some people said it was 700 so I was estimating 700 just to be on the safe side. I'm assuming it's per person as well, per group doesn't really make sense... was just being optimistic |

In July 2013, it was 550 pesos or $13.50 USD ,if my memory serves me correctly. Many tourists were not prepared, I observed. Yes, it's per person.
Pesos or Dollars accepted for transaction. |

It used to be 700 back when the exchange rate was 55peso/1 dollar. It was changed to reflect the changes in the exchange rate a couple of years ago.

That's about it. I went to Boracay in March, exchanged some dollars for pesos at the airport in Manila. Waited until I got to Boracay to exchange the rest. Also, I thought the rate would be better on Boracay than Manila International Airport, but it wasn't- 40 pesos to the dollar or so. |
