After Chuseok - we have 개천절 thur 3rd October - I guess quite a lot of schools will be closed on the friday 4th too. I already booked my tickets for a little break 
Then wed 9th October is 한글날 day - yay! |

If you book travel tickets in Korea with the assumption you'll get the Friday off between a holiday and the weekend, you're gonna have a bad time. |

| My hagwon has the Korean teachers work Saturdays, so they had to have a discussion about whether or not to teach the Saturday after Chuseok....I couldn't believe it was even an issue... |

| Public school has an exam day after Oct 3rd and you usually have to be there. You might get lucky if you're in the msot isolated distant gun out in the middle of nowhere and get the day off. Then again, maybe not. ANyways, don't assume. Ask your co - teachers. You might be able to use one of your public school vacation days or maybe not. Ask and ye shall find out. |

There may be some that actually teach during the holiday. Crapwons don't care about holidays and only want the money. They won't broadcast it but they're out there and they know who they are. You'd be surprised how fanatical some students can be and how sleazy some owners can be. |

| Exactly, the Korean teachers at my hagwon had to decide if they wanted a Wed ~ Sun off for their summer vacation and give up Aug. 15 or have Thur ~ Sun and have Aug. 15 off. The teachers chose to have that extra day of summer vacation. Well, the sad thing is most of the students did show up on Aug. 15... |

People stated what I stated. Never assume things when it comes to holidays. You think schools would be nice and give that one day off for a loner holiday, nope. Expect to see few students. Nope the majority are there.
I found the similar with other events. It is raining outside horribly and I mean cats and dogs and elephants. You go to school thinking maybe there will be fewer students. Nope, all there and over half are wet and a third have no umbrella. |

| Of course they're there on holidays and during extreme weather. Korean parents love their kids too much to actually spend any time with them. |

| I remember my first year teaching in hogwon. Big storm outside and the power goes off. No lights in the entire place. Thirty minutes later and still no electricity. I'm thinking school would close down for the evening as it was still storming hard. Korean staffer comes back from the store with candles. English class by candlelight. I was thinking "really?" |

Radcon,reading your comments, made my day
LOL! Wow. This has to be a classic . I was thinking of the time we had the BIG snow storm ( I think 2009/2010?) and in my small town only emergency vehicles were allowed on the road, even the 7-11 was closed. My boss called and said, "class is still on, try to get here early if you can."
Sure enough when I arrived ,the boss, all of the teachers and the secretary were frantically shoveling the parking lot and entry way /walks/stairs to the school.
But the storm was too overwhelming to keep up. (for every one shoveled, two was falling) Finally, I said to the boss, just let everybody go home, I'll work on Saturday.
He was so happy. He said he had wanted to call school off, but since I don't work Saturdays, he didn't know how to handle the situation. Really? |
