Apologies if this has been answered somewhere in this forum:
Does the Canadian RCMP criminal background check need to be notarized for an E-2 visa?
Or does the Korean consulate just stamp it?
Thanks |

Why not check out the various Canadian consulate websites? They will give you better information then Dave's.

And for Vancouver the answer is yes! |

Thanks for the reply.
The Toronto Korean consulate page was a bit vague about the details, so I thought I would ask the question here to see how other Canadians went about it! |

The CRC does not have to be stamped by a notary public, it does need to be "stamped" by the Korean consulate. |

Yea, the other consulates are pretty vague. When in doubt check the Vancouver and go with that. |

You have been told wrong things. Here are the correct things.
#1 Unlike America, Canada does not distinguish between provinces or cities or Feds. There is ONE database and only one. All law enforcement agencies contact the same central database. Your local cops will do just fine.
Korean recruiters have only 7 countries to work from. They should know the rules for each but they don't. Any recruiter that tells you you need to go to the RCMP and RCMP only does not know what they are talking about. I am in Korea right now on an E-2 visa with a CBC I obtained from the local cops. The Toronto embassy had zero problem with it.
#2 First you need to get your CBC and Degree notarized at any lawyer at all anywhere. (Some Koreans will tell you it has to be apostilled. This is false. Nothing needs to be apostilled. Canada never signed the Hague convention. A recruiter that tells you apostillization is necessary either has never dealed with a Canadian before or is extremely forgetful. )
Get your stuff notarized.
#3 After it is notarized and ONLY after it is notarized, you should mail it to the Korean consulate closest to you along with a prepaid return envelope so they can mail it back after they've stamped it. The Canada post ladies know how to do this.
They will not stamp your stuff if it isn't notarized. The Koreans in Korea don't care about your notarization. They care about the stamp from the embassy. But the embassy will not give you a stamp without notarization.
Local CBC (and degree) --> Notarization --> Embassy --> You in Korea.
By the way, you'll need your original degree to be notarized and get a stamp, but DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT mail your original to Korea. They don't require it, even if they say they do. They'll lose it, too. |

Nice! Some advice for when you are ready to apply for the actual visa. Make sure you are there well before 12pm! I planned to get there at 11:30~ but got there at 12:05 because of traffic and construction and they didn't give a !@#$. They shut the visa application right at 12 so when you do plan to go don't cut it close. |
