Citizenship makes no difference other than Saffers NOT being required (legally) to pay into the NPS (Pension).

NHIC 3%
NPS 4.5%
Income (withholding) Tax (if you are an employee) about 1.7% on a gross salary of 2.1 million.
The tax rate varies depending on income and the percentage rises with gross income as per the NPS tables.

Those are the ONLY legal deductions they are allowed to make from your salary.

Just to see how much tax would be taken for an American.

The same as anybody else.

If you have a dodgy employer (you work for a typical hagwon) then tax is probably at 3.3% (independent contractor rate) and you don't pay into or receive NPS or NHIC.

So Korean tax is much lower than american tax. For example in America 32k salary actually 24k after tax. I guess in Korea it's 24k and then barely any tax so American 32k = Korean 24k?
