Cool song and video...but the group name makes me cringe. How many Koreans understand the name I wonder. Does the band even...? The name is shown on mainstream TV during the daytime; that definately wouldn't happen in America or other English speaking countries.

(The name logo at the beginning of the video looks surprisingly phallic.) Too bad. I think the name will really hold them back in international markets.

Sigmund Freud would be very proud of Korea.

I liked the first one, second one didn't do anything for me. Nothing extra special in either case. But the OP's assertion that it would never be broadcast in daytime in English-speaking countries? Meh. You must've never heard of *beep* Riot. Also, the logo on the second video is "surprsingly phallic" only if you happen to think men usually have just one testicle. It's not so different than other logo backgrounds I've seen in some very conservative areas of the US.

I don't get worked up by faux English (aka "Decorative English") names in non-English countries. I have my initial laugh, then I realize it's simply not their language and go from there.

Their songs were broadcast on American daytime TV? I don't think so.

Their name certainly was. And look at how this site automatically censored the name. Daytime TV news reports in the US didn't do that.

What? Are you sure? I'd like to see the link. Their name was aired in a news report about them being arrested? Even that would surprise me, but it's not like their video was being aired on MTV.

Of course they know what it means. Part of the reason K-pop groups use English is to get away with saying what they couldn't possibly say in Korean (that annoying 'lollipop' song is a prime example of this (and how ripping off other artists' creativity, Serge Gainsbourg in this case, is widespread)) and so kids feel as if they are listening to something their parents wouldn't approve of. Trust me, it's been studied. It's a socio-linguistic fact.

Maybe not. My high school students are giving a presentation. One group chose the topic "DickPunks".

"The DickPunks are an inspiration to us. If we follow the example of the DickPunks and work hard, we can accomplish our dreams."

Awkward. What am I going to do as they present in front of the class? I'll go on as if nothing out of the ordinary is taking place.

The bands definitely know what they are saying, and that was my point. So what if there are kids who are clueless, that doesn't change the fact that one of the reasons they use English is so the kids feel as if they are speaking a code their parents don't understand, almost like an anti-language. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-language

Their name was spoken uncensored on Canadian news programs.

Also, MTV doesn't play music videos. They haven't for years now.
