Minjok Leadership Academy, to be exact. The one out in the sticks, in Gangwondo. I tried searching for teacher testimonials but couldn't find any. I was wondering if the job is nice enough to compensate for living in the middle of nowhere.

One thing you'll want to do is find out exactly how many minutes or hours you'll be from the nearest labor and pension offices if you work at that school. If you end up being a victim of fraud, if you're out in the sticks, just going to labor office could literally take all day.

It's a very prestigious school. Their students are very bright.

Ask any Korean you know, and they'll tell you the same thing.

Read their Wikipedia page if you haven't already.

Yes, I know it's a top school. Smile I am more curious about what it's like to be a teacher there.

Well, I would imagine the kids are very bright, motivated, and well-behaved. Quite a few of them are probably fairly fluent in English.

Besides that, Hoengseong is a great place to be if you like eating beef.

Sorry, but that's all I have. Wink

10 years ago they required the teachers to wear hanbok, even those hard-brimmed hats Joseon guys used to wear. But thats no more.

I've had the opportunity to interview some students from there. Astonishingly bright & articulate. One girl was weighing scholarships from Harvard, Yale, & MIT.

A friend of mine from Canada taught there during vacations for several years. He had decent reports. I've also met some of the K-teachers, smart & dedicated.

I toyed with applying a while back. The chance to work with exceptional students was enticing. But it really is set off all by itself in the middle of countryside. If you had a car maybe.

Yes, I was also going to suggest getting a car, but changed my mind at the last moment because I didn't have inside info like you do. Didn't want to sound as if I wanted the OP to serve as a guinea pig for me. Laughing

Yes, the chance to work with students like that is hard to pass up. I currently teach literature at a similar sort of school, but it's an after-school program, so while the hourly pay is great and the students are exceptional, I don't get enough hours for it to count as a full-time job. It'd be nice to get a full-time gig, but Hwengsong is just so far. The pay might make it worthwhile if you also get summer and winter vacations. Getting a car would also make it easier, I suppose.

Are you single? If so, Hwengsong is close to Seoul, Chuncheon, and Wonju. It's not as if you'll be totally out in the sticks.

I'm married, and my husband has a uni job in Seoul that he'd be crazy to leave. Hence my reluctance to live two hours from Seoul. Smile Oh well. I'll have to think about it some more.

Ouch. That would be rough. You'd probably be better off looking for a job in Seoul, then. Good luck.

The gigs okay, the students are terrific, but the school has financial difficulties and the location is of course a big drawback.

Do you think the school's financial difficulties will end up affecting the teachers?
