My wife-to-be and I are looking at putting on a small party after our wedding. My hope was to find a community hall or similar and just buy crates of beer and so on. Has anyone any experience of doing this? I've done this in the UK before but not sure where to start here. The alternative would be to 'rent' a small bar and put money behind the bar for guests. Any advice or suggestions would be most welcome!

Depends on the size of the party and your location.
1) You can rent a banquet hall at a hotel, but I imagine it's quite pricy.
2) People typically throw parties at buffets, quite frankly. That's what we did for my father-in-law's 60th birthday party many years ago.
3) It's also possible to rent a bar. University students do it all the time to throw parties.
4) And, finally, a friend did organize something outdoors, with beer on tap, for his wedding. Some hotels are able to setup events like that.
Is your wife-to-be Korean? If so, she should ask her closest friends. I'm sure she knows someone who can make some suggestions.
Good luck and congrats. |

One more option to add to the above:
Big apartment complexes often have party rooms available to their renters for a nominal fee. We have a bunch of them in my apartment and they are used for banquets and classes all the time. If you or any of your friends live in a biggish complex, look into that. |

Search on naver for 파티공간. There are tons of places in Seoul that rent out spaces for parties, although prices will obviously vary. If your guests are willing to travel a bit you could also rent out a pension somewhere close to Seoul, in 양평 or 가평. Then you could have a BBQ outside.
There's a bar in Itaewon called 가자창고 - above Sam Ryans - that allows you to rent the bar for parties. One of those self service beer places where you just take the bottle out of the fridge and pay as you drink. |

thanks for the responses. Nothing decided as yet. My friend used the place above Sam Ryan's. Looked good. |
