|
|
I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 from LGU+ with LTE. I was wondering if anyone knows (or has experience with) buying a prepaid SIM card in Taiwan and having it work in Taiwan with this phone or something similar. I asked LGU+ and they didn't know. I"ll be going on vacation next week and it would be nice to have some sort of data access with my phone.

| As far as I know, phones from LGU+ cannot be used abroad as they don't use SIM cards. They might have a roaming plan you can subscribe to. It's probably best to call and ask. |

S4 LTE with LGU+ must be SHV-E300L if it's not the latest 'LTE-A' variant.
Although it used to be true that LGU phones seriously lacked overseas compatibility, limited range of recent phones come out with extra modules making them widely compatible with other networks. S4 just happens to be one of them.
That said, the LTE function in particular may be of no use over there, because current Taiwanese 4G is built around WiMax technology that is incompatible with LTE devices. Your S4 will be using their 3G network for streaming data. |

| for around 10k won a day you can rent a global-roaming capable smartphone to use in taiwan and get unlimited 3g data from the lg u+ kiosk at incheon airport. this applies for sk and kt as well if you are customers with them. |

That used to be true. My first phone and then my second phone, a Galaxy S2, had the SIM card built in and hence it could not be removed nor changed. However, my S4 does have a removable SIM card.

Thank you for this answer. I had the suspicion that my phone would and your answer helped me feel more confident. I'm not worried about LTE. LTE is great and all but 3G would be plenty for me to access the internet and do what I got to do.
I'll try asking LGU+ again and see if I can get an actual answer. Their excuse the last time I asked was "the technology is too new to know that yet." |

I just want to post to say that when I arrived at the Taipei International Airport, I found a booth selling 3G Sim Cards (data only) for 450 NTD that works for 7 days (less than 20,000 KRW).
It worked. So for anyone else that is curious, there's your answer |
