"The Korean Alphabet Day, known as Hangul Day in South Korea, and Chosŏn'gŭl Day in North Korea, is a national Korean commemorative day marking the invention and the proclamation of the Korean alphabet (한글; 조선글), the native alphabet of the Korean language, by King Sejong the Great. It is observed on October 9 in South Korea and on January 15 in North Korea." - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hangul_Day

First it was, then it wasn't and from this year again it will be. It's a red day.

On top of this, if you're currently in a public school, some schools are letting teachers have the Friday off as well. Check with your co-teacher or vice-principal.

You are referring to the Friday following Foundation Day. Hangeul day is the following Wednesday. |

If you search for 한글의 날 on Naver, there are plenty of articles about how it was reinstated as a national holiday this year, as well as articles about how people are confused because it wasn't printed as a red day on most calendars.
