Sorry if it has been answered before, but I have a simple question.
My school has not paid me fully. Come next week they will be almost two months behind on their payments. The made a partial payment on 10/3 but it was a third of what they owed.
My question is what recourse do I have against my school. I am currently a F6 visa holder. I just am curious about the length of time I need to give them before taking them to the labor board.
They claim to have financial difficulties. I am worried that the school will under and I will have to settle for a partial payment of what is owed. Another concern is that I don't want to work longer, and have to fight for what I rightfully earned.
Thanks for your help. |

The problem I believe people have is that if they say they will not come into work, then what keeps the boss from evicting them? Not everybody is proficient enough in Korean to pack everything up and then find a hotel until who knows how long. Then if they never get paid, how do they get home? |

Well they could 'set' their wife/husband on the owner, if their Korean isn't good enough... |

See if your wife/husband will help you out with this. You aren't using the benefits of your F6....The good thing about having the F6 is that you don't have to put up with this kind of crap and can move on without that much worry. Just walk in and give them a month notice that you are quitting. |

Before taking it to the labor board, you have to wait 2 weeks. So, if they are two months behind on paying you, then they're well beyond the two week limit. Go to the LB tomorrow morning. Get it sorted out BEFORE they go out of business. If they close up shop then you'll have a hard time getting anything from them. |

Exactly what I would do. And would follow up with visits to every other office he might be in violation of standards with. I wouldn't even argue the matter. |

One of my ex companies tried to pull that on me. I flat out TOLD THEM if they didnt send the money asap I wouldnt work until I got my money. Guess what? I got my money immediately and it never happened again. Continued to happen to others in the school but I couldnt care less since Im not responsible for those losers. |
Yeah sure nutter. Tell me, if someone is working on an E2 visa instead of an F6, how do they do that without being threatened with firing? Remember if you're fired, no money, and no chance of another job, so how do you stay in Korea and go through the courts?

Find another job since you have an F6 visa, then take the former employer to the labor department then to court. Although it might be best to start talking to the labor department while you still have this job, then quit later. Don't even bother negotiating with them. They know they're not supposed to be doing what they're doing and they know it. You shouldn't work anything out with this employer. |

Easy. Go in with the mentality that they need you more than you need them. That's one of the most important things to remember about working in Korea, and how I've worked my way up so quickly to land my DREAM JOB I have today. Instead of coyly suggesting they send the money with my head down like a pushover beta, I demanded my money with authority ASAP and didn't back down and take no for an answer. They apologized, bowed their heads and I got my money. Unlike the other losers I worked with that got screwed and whined about it like a bunch of scrubs.
Sure if you're a weak minded scrub they'll threaten you and you won't win. But when you roll IPIC style, you don't take no for an answer and you're the one calling the shots. |

Yep yep. I registered at college and thought, "I am going to do this for all the little kimchi eaters who need my native English voice. I am going to spend thousands of dollars in some unrelated field and rack up student loans, but that doesn't matter. This will be my dream job!!!" |

That's the kind of attitude my scrub coworkers had that never stood up to their Korean bosses. And that's why I'm rolling VIP style and you're on your cupcake 2.2 salary. |

So, which ESL teachers did you have a poster of on your wall when you were a kid? |

best advice for the OP is to head over to the AFEK board to avoid the mindless troll's like IPIC bragging about their slightly higher than average salary.
a lot of helpful threads over there, and no threads derailed by "I make blah blah blah more than all you E-2 losers" kinda thing |
