It's been deleted. The Mods usually don't like it when a deleted discussion is reopened on another thread.

I don't understand. It was deleted because someone posted something similar in an existing thread? |

| Religious Discussion threads are on very thin ice. As soon as it veers into the validity of the religion itself or bashing takes place, it gets shut down. |

| Dave's ESL is used by teachers in the Middle East and it would be nice if it continued to be available in that area, specifically Saudi Arabia. |

| No need to use a question mark when making a statement. The Catholic church is a political institution as well as a religious one, and most of the discussion is in these terms. Other than that you may take it up with the moderators, but in doing so you may get banned. Why not go and write comments under all the educational youtube videos you are watching. |

Which would be fine were it not for just about every post from The Cosmic Hum, more than half of those from Scorpion, and even a few from GF. |

It's a fine line, and I'm not going to speak for the Mods, but I'd imagine some ways to explore the topic without violating the TOS are out there.
Possible ways might be-
Discussing political parties/figures, such as Islamist ones, in Middle Eastern countries and the policies they are promoting.
Discussing an article/book and the validity of the author's claims with a focus on the research, methodology, and conclusions.
A specific current event and keeping things solely in the context of that event. What are the causes? What are the possible outcomes?
Ways to get the thread shut down- Bash the religion. Bash the people. Make hardline, absolute claims. Make strong value judgments. Use racial stereotypes. |

I didn't see any bashing of Islam on the deleted thread anymore than I see bashing of Catholicism on the existing thread.
Islam seems like a touchy subject, not only on these boards but everywhere. It seems to me that people are scared to discuss it. |

Islam tends to get intertwined with racism as well.
It doesn't help that people start to blend Arabs and Muslims together. "Blow up Iran and all those other Arabs". 
The people discussing things often are hyper-ignorant of the various religions, ethnic groups, and their histories in the Islamic-area world. |

This goes both ways though: the same people who are more than happy to attack more traditional European religions will often push back against "Islamophobia." Bashing religion is fine until it's a perceived "non-white" religion, then suddenly the race-hysteria begins.
