hi,
this is a uni job so long vacations and low teaching hours, but can I save any money they give me a free apartment.
I have a non-working spouse who may try to get a job. But if not can I save about 1000 bucks a month?, without living on cup noodles every day.

Seems to me Frank is asking you if you have nothing better than to troll this board with an all but illiterate post. So what if you have a smart phone? That does not mean you cannot compose an intelligible sentence, even using correct punctuation. It isn't that poor spelling and lack of punctuation that curse your post.

Who, pray tell, is trying to harm those helpless bucks?
By all means, do what you can to save them, please.

Yes, you can save $1000 easily. If you put your mind to it, you can save $1500 a month. The only problem is that you're going to be having a lot of time off from teaching and you're going to be tempted to spend that money because you're going to be bored out of your mind. Couple that with the long vacation times, and the only barrier separating you and a nice savings account is your impulses.

Taxes, pension, health care, prob 180,000 on your salary. Electric 50,000 in summer with a/c running a lot. 8,000 a month in winter. Gas 3,000 a month in summer. 110,000 a month in the coldest month of winter depending on usage. But, most months 89 to 90 K Maybe 40,000 at the tail end of winter (November and April or March depending on the year.) 2G ikd style phone 15,000 a month. Smart phone 70ish K a month. Transportation expenses, taxi, bus, etc are things I can't help you with. But, they are cheaper than in the west. Building could have a maintenance fee ranging from 20,000 to over 100,000 depending on the type of building you live in. Some will charge for water usage while others don't. Could be an extra 20,000 or so a month. I pay 40,000 a month for internet and cable via "KT Olleh" as they have many English channels. Others are cheaper and don't have those extra channels.

If it's an old building you're stuck in, expect the miserly landlord to try and sqeeze every penny out of you while doing eff all to help you if there are any problems in the place. A new place, prob more reasonable fees and the landlord helps if the pipe bursts or something else goes wrong. (At least my experiences.)

I quoted gas and electric for a small studio or one bedroom apartment in a modern insulated building. Older buildings have no insulation and thin windows so energy inefficient and higher bills. It also depends on whether you have a large or a small apartment.

August totals for me

Total bills for January 2013 for me: close to 170,000 for everything (all bills - gas, electric, cable and internet, and phone bill). Owner charges me no water or maintenance fees.

Totals for August 2013: Around 120,000 a month.

Your food totals will be more with a non working spouse. Food prices similiar to back home with some things cheaper but most things more expensive. How much you go out is up to you and will drive up your expenses especially for two people being on one paycheck. That's controllable by you.
