Wow, compared to other forums like, SORRY, CAN'T SAY, VERBOTTEN, this forum is basically standing still. Same dozen or few slanted waygooks bashing each other. Also the no avatar policy, SORRY, CAN'T SAY, VERBOTTEN, and the no image policy, SORRY, CAN'T SAY, VERBOTTEN. Catch you L8R, "posters"?.

Why on earth could you not name another forum?

Gorf started his forum and advertised that here with no problems.

Wayguk.org is another option.

There are few more out there and I do not see why naming them would pose a problem.

People who do know things are posting on other sites, or not at all. Example? Last weekend there was a big festival of some kind in Itaewon and none of the many Itaewon regulars and those who live in Itaewon bothered to post about it beforehand or give an after action report. They walked past posters and banners multiple times daily and not a peep. It wasn't that music festival; it was a Global food event with many tents. How hard would it have been to post something? Minutes of valuable Pabst chugging time lost?
Plus, after that recent Itaewon fire, there was more info from 10 Magazine posted on this site than from posters who live there. If that crowd, and it's many posters on here, doesn't even a rat's behind then why bother posting info about anything else?

test...

www.eslcafe.com

(*edit* that's what comes up when you type in one of the other Korean expat forum addresses.....automatically changes it to the address of this site.)

Agree with what you wrote too, Pat...I don't see why naming these forums should pose a problem. I guess some mods are seeing trolls and boogey men under their beds at night.

All other other k-forums I keep an eye on seem a bit slower. The only thing that is really active is FB groups (k-related).

People are enjoying their lives and don't want to read these forums I guess.

Well, considering that there is no "mod edit" note on the original post, and the fact that you CAN post other sites, and that the nature of the "edit" is smarmier than mod edits here tend to be, it is clear that "SORRY, CAN'T SAY, VERBOTTEN" was what was originally posted...so FDNY either self-censored, or wanted other folks to think he was censored....

or,

if you were a newby wanting to see just what sites provide information in a way comfortable for you, this site makes at least one choice less easily found.

Not really a problem except, lets face it, Dave's is the most widely known (or, this being Dave's will require pages of discussion) of the Korean ESL sites. So a site is marginalized by the most dominant player.

I am surprised at P-GHBusan's nonchalant detachment as this is widely known amongst older members, and PGB was (apparently in a former life) a mod. The 'what are you talking about' seems a little disingenuous. None the less ...

Perhaps we could label it commercial or professional censorship.

I wonder if teachers are staying longer in Korea, so less job turnover, so less need for a site like this to ask questions. They probably already know what to do, where to find things.

Also facebook has made it better to find people in your locale and get relevant info.

I suspect most posters on this site are pre-facebook holdovers.

This is 2013 but pictures and avatars aren't supported. It's an old fashioned forum with apparently no interest from the mods or owner

Well I would argue you suspect wrong. I used FB extensively when in Korea and still do. Then there are also tons of other online resources for info, networking and so on.

Why has this site slowed down? Probably a natural result of the online offering becoming far more diversified and thus giving people more choices.

Each site / resource has its uses I think.

I don't care about FDNY's edit notes. I wasn't making any reference to that. I was replying to Patrick who said links to other Korean esl sites aren't blocked, and I guess I'll reply to you likewise since you didn't understand what I was saying. See what happens when you type the full address for expatkorea.com...it will automatically edit itself to www.eslcafe.com

Quite clearly you CAN'T link to all other esl sites and stating otherwise is either being ignorant or deliberately attempting to mislead.

Many of those Facebook groups seem "active" because of spam from recruiters, a few restaurants and resellers that bombard Facebook with spam.

It also seems like some internet sites are not even active, like Three Wise Monkeys. Is it still an active site?

Controversial issues are pretty much closed off before they even start, whereas in other sites they talk and talk and talk about them. I feel like some posters here wait for someone to say the wrong thing so they can shut a discussion down or ensure that poster leaves forever. Eventually it just becomes the same people talking to themselves. That doesn't seem to happen in the other sites. I stopped coming here for info and I go to the other places now. I come here every once in a while for a laugh though. There is something wrong here, not sure what it is and I'm not interested enough to find out. But really, something odd is going on here.

I imagine people new to Korea come here and browse for a bit, then realize there are too many shenanigans going on here and leave. Kind of like Korea in general.

I'm part of a group on FB Korea related that has NO spam. I know, hard to imagine. lol
But because of that, there's tons of great activity.
