This is a good warm up for small- and large-sized classes. In general I find kids sort of get pumped up and focused on learning when you start off with some healthy competition. Draw a rebus on the board and try to get them to figure it out. They're kind of hard for ESL types but you can start to work them through the logic and the sharper tools in the shed can get them about 90% there.
Here's a good page full of them. http://www.fun-with-words.com/rebus_puzzles.html
Many are idioms the kids might not get but "flat tire" or "see for yourself" might be literal enough. |
